Now up for auction is this 2003 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe finished in Orient Red Metallic. This 2003 example was originally sold in California where it has remained in excellent condition throughout its entire life while accumulating just over 42k miles. Highlighting factory 18” wheels, a Graphite Grey leather interior, the Bose Sound System, and a 6-speed manual transmission, this Carrera is now being offered on behalf of its 3rd owner in Alaska, by its seller out of San Juan Bautista, CA.
The Orient Red Metallic finish is described by the seller to be original and exceptional condition. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX. Optional factory equipment includes Litronic Xenon headlamps with washers and 18” Carrera 5-spoke wheels.
Inside, this 996 features a Graphite Grey interior with optional leather upholstery on the front seats, rear seats, dashboard, and door panel inserts. Other factory specifications include 8-way power seats, the Bose Sound System, and heated front seats. Some imperfections can be seen on the driver’s seat and the seller indicates the cabin to be in otherwise superb condition with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional including the original radio.
This Carrera is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.6 L flat-six engine rated at 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque. A desirable 6-speed manual transmission drives the rear wheels while the factory optioned Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system provides refined driving dynamics. This example is said to be mechanically stock and up to date on all routine maintenance. A recent oil and filter change was carried out along with an inspection of the engine and IMS bearing which found no issues. The IMS bearing has not yet been addressed.
This sale will include a clean Alaska title. A truly well-presented example, this 996 makes an excellent choice for any discerning driver.
Do you know what happened to the driver seat? Crime scene cleanup?
@butzi1971 Where you able to get through to, Elite Auto Hauling? for shipping quote?
@butzi1971 I have shipped many Porsche 911's, Find below contact information for a reliable transport broker. I always ship in a enclosed transport to secure no damages come to my Porsche's . This Porsche is located in San Juan Bautista, CA 95045
PcarMarket does not allow sharing contact information.
Do you have contacts that would deliver this car to Ohio? I am interested in your car but have no experience with shipping a car. The shipping makes me a bit nervous. Anxious for your reply!
@CP_VT Yes this Porsche was originally sold, on BAT. The new owner never took delivery from CA, as he found out how much it would cost him to have the 911 shipped to his home in Alaska. He then asked me to assist in the selling fof the Porsche.
@vivavaquero didn't you sell this on BAT on 10/29/20? Did that sale not go through?
If this auction is still unsettled, somebody should communicate with Pcar directly and get all over it. I quit bidding when I did only because that was my limit in light of other more expensive obligations I'm facing right now. I myself never worried about the IMS on a car with 41,000+ miles on it. People make too big a deal out of that. This car is a steal at the last bid price. I wish the timing was better for me. I'd love to be driving this beauty!
For those of you who are wondering what’s going on now. Pcarmarket and the seller are negotiating with the highest bidder or bidders, because whether it sells or not the last recorded bid was below reserve. As it should have been.
I think it’s well bought and sold. Have fun!
Agreed. 25k was as high as I’ll go on a car with an open IMS.
Big time steal fir the price!
@viavaquero Really a beautiful car. Better vehicle documentation would have brought more from me.
If the engine is sound this is a steal.

WRENCH.56 Yes I have the Alaska Title in hand here in CA, free and clear and signed by the current owner.
Bid in the amount of $20,000
Hi again. Do you have the AK title in hand?
Bid in the amount of $18,000
Looks like tremendous value for a car that needs a little TLC. Good luck on the bidding.
Mercyhealth Let me clarify from Pcarmarkets wording on the IMS subject. Less than 100 miles ago, the oil and oil filter was changed. During that process the oil itself was inspected for any kind of debris or the like, none was found. Also the cartridge oil filter was inspected for any kind of debris or metal fragments and none was found at all.
Bid in the amount of $16,000
@viavaquero Also thank you for the walk around video with interior review. Though I hope everyone sees that it was NOT a cold start up. Temperature at just below 180 and oil gauge not pinned to the top.
Bid in the amount of $14,250
@viavaquero So you mentioned that the oil was changed and the IMS was evaluated but not mitigated.
2 questions, 1 request
-at the oil change was the filter dissected open and inspected for metal bits?
-if you were that deep into the engine (meaning you separated the engine from the transmission) seems odd that no one recommended an IMS solution at that time. Was the IMS removed, inspected then replaced? Sorry not clear to me.
Can you get a picture of the bottom of the bell housing where transmission meets engine. If this were clean and oil free it would make me more comfortable to bid higher.
Nice Car a bit beat up but plastics can be replaced easily.

tonyagc ( "Mechanically Stock" the words of PcarMarket, as far as I am concerned mean the 911 is Mechanically as the Porsche came from the Porsche Factory. The RMS is like new, no seepage at all. The clutch grabs like new, no slippage, ease of operation and shifting. I check the clutch by idling on a flat roadway, putting the Porsche in Second gear and slowly letting out the clutch while observing the RPM's for slipage and when the clutch grabs as lifted from the floor.
@viavaquero Thanks!....So does "mechanically stock" imply that the no RMS or Clutch work has been done?
tonyagc Yes, CA buyers who register the Porsche in CA will need to pay CA DMV themselves for sales tax, registration and transfer. This will be a Private Party Sale from the current private party owner to the next owner. These fees are also due by most states the Porsche is registered and titled in but do vary to the individual state fees.
Just want to confirm....CA buyers will need to pay use tax and registration fee's to the DMV when registering this vehicle in CA....Sometimes sellers will put down a lower purchase price to help buyers pay reduced use tax, but you didn't hear that from me...:)
BeachBoy1 Yes, this Porsche 911 has alway remained in CA. He went ahead and got the Alaska title before he found out the cost of shipping from CA to Alaska. The CA plate is still with the 911.
so the car has an Alaska title but the car is still in Calif.?? He went ahead and titled the car but did not want to pay for shipping??

Actually in my years of using CarFax Reports I have found them the most detailed and reliable compared to their competitors. As a Porsche only collector I have been handed a number of reports by other reportings that have not mentioned accidents and the like but CarFax has reported. These CF reports are only entered by those shops that have signed up for their work to be documented on CarFax, mostly dealership and a some reliable independent service departs. This has been my experiences. It is nice to see that some of the last reporting on CF for this Porsche has been performed by Porsche Dealerships, as they are very particular and detailed. The gaps may very well be due to shops not being signed up for the CarFax Reporting.
Thanks for the response.
Sorry for calling it a 993 instead of a 996 in my first reply. I've got 993 on my brain since selling mine!
I have little faith in Carfax reports, but noticed a huge gap in their reporting of service on this car. Can you shed any light on that?
WRENCH.56 Any state sales tax on this Porsche will depend on the sales tax of the state the Porsche is going to be registered/titled in, if that state has a sales tax. No sales tax will need to be paid by AK or CA.
Good Question, the heated seats work as they should.
And one more question:
Does the driver's seat heater still work after the water damage?
A very nice 993! One Question and one request:
1: Does CA or AK collect sales tax on used vehicles delivered out of state? I know that CA does on new cars b/c I once tried to buy new car there. The CA tax was truly onerous. Please advise.
2. Is it possible to get photos of the underside and get them posted prior to auction close?
Thank you for the explanation and details on the seat. Much appreciated.
The owner of the 911 had the seat treated by an interior specialists. The specialists suggested that a number of additional treatments would be needed to soften up the leather further. The leather seat is not cracked at all. The leather did soften from the first treatment. He also suggested the seat would likely need to be re-stained to match the others leather seats. The specialists thought the drivers side window must have remained open a bit and moisture got on the seat. Just the seat portion is affected. Inspection was done of all the areas surrounding the seat such as underneath the seat, under the driver's side floor matt and carpet. No other water signs were observed and no smells were noticed.
Could you take some additional pictures of the drivers seat leather to show the condition? Trying to understand the true condition and what it will take to repair or recondition. Thanks - great color car!
Video content has been added to the listing.
nafs The current owner, after purchasing the 911, came down with the Covid and when he was able got quotes to ship the 911 from CA to Anchorage, Alaska, the shipping price was so high he asked me to sell it for him. The CA title was sent to the buyer after payment was received and he titled it in Alaska.
Exhaust is stock, including the tips. I have a 2000 Porsche 911-4 with the same Porsche Factory Exhaust . Thanks for you interest
energyof2 The Porsche was never shipped to Alaska, it remained in CA
Would be nice to get an explanation of what happened after the BaT auction and why the car was titled in Alaska. Also, the exhaust tips do not look stock, is there an aftermarket exhaust on this?
So went to Alaska and immediately for sale? Nice color.
jrocco1971 Please refer to the print ad on this Porsche
A recent oil and filter change was carried out along with an inspection of the engine and IMS bearing which found no issues. The IMS bearing has not yet been addressed.
