Available for auction is this 2004 BMW E46 M3 Convertible finished in Carbon Black Metallic over a Cinnamon Brown leather interior. The flagship of the E46 generation, the M3 represents a high point in both design and performance for BMW. Equipped with an S54 inline-six engine, this 2004 example also features an array of tasteful upgrades including 19” BBS wheels, a Status Gruppe exhaust system, halo-style headlights, and an upgraded ECU tune. Purchased by its third and current owner in 2015, this E46 M3 is now being offered for auction out of New York with under 46k miles showing on the odometer.
This M3 is finished in Carbon Black Metallic with a black power-retractable soft top. The M3 sports a few major differences compared with a standard 3-Series, most notably its wider fender flares, side air vents, revised front bumper, mirrors, and rear valence. The seller notes that the front grill has been refinished in black along with the lower rear valance. Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. Halo-style headlights have been installed and this M3 rides on a set of 19” BBS CH wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. The front tires are older, and the rear tires are said to have been recently replaced within the last 300 miles.
Inside, the Cinnamon Brown leather interior is highlighted by M-specific details including deeply bolstered Sport Seats, a thicker M-Sport steering wheel with contrasting stitching, and an M gauge cluster. Additional factory features include brushed aluminum interior trim, a BMW MK4 navigation system, and heated seats. An upgraded custom steel SMG gear selector knob has been installed and the base of the shifter has been wrapped in removable carbon-look vinyl along with the lower steering wheel trim. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.
Power comes from the venerable naturally-aspirated 3.2L S54 inline-six engine, which makes up to 333 HP and 269 lb.-ft of torque. Widely regarded as one of BMW’s greatest engine designs, the S54 derives motorsport technology including individual throttle bodies, quasi-dry sump lubrication, and Mahle pistons. BMWs automated Sequential Manual Gearbox II (SMG II) routes power to the rear wheels and allows the driver to change their own gears or enable fully automatic shifting. This M3 comes equipped with an upgraded Status Gruppe exhaust system and a performance engine ECU chip. Recent maintenance is said to include the installation of a new lower control arm, bushings, and a service with new spark plugs and coil packs.

@Rneuman Hi.The winning bidder had to have emergency surgery and will be laid up for four weeks.He was planning to drive the car to his upstate NY home which is currently not an option.He gracefully bailed out as not to delay our arrangement. These e46 M3s are quickly going up in price. They are are incredible performers with a well known engine. The only question here is the SMG. Having owned both a manual and SMG e46 M3, I can honestly say the autoshifter is a true pleasure to drive.
Low miles and attractive colors make this one tempting.

@Sctsny I may have the paperwork on the reinforcement.It was done by my local independent shop/M3 enthusiast.It was simply metal brackets that gave the top of the shocks a stronger mounting area.The exhaust did not have to be removed.Sorry I am more of a driver than a mechanic.Klanci

Do you have the receipt for the work completed on the up rear suspension? I am trying to understand the extent of the work as I know it is really involved. Was the rear suspension and muffler system dropped to complete the work? Thanks again for your responses.

@Sctsny No scuff marks that I have seen but II will check tonight when I get home.No vibrations.That was a minor scrape when I clipped a Belgian block in my driveway.Original wheels are gone but I do have the original dual exhaust muffler in my basement in excellent shape if you want it.Klanci
Thank you for your responses. When reviewing the pics on line, I cannot tell if its reflections or scuff marks. Are there scuff marks on the driver side rear quarter panel ? Also, do you get any vibrations from the rim that seems to have taken a curb hit? Do you have the original wheels? Thanks again for the info.
@Sctsny No oil has ever been sent out to Blackstone.The car is inspected annually top to bottom by my mechanic of 20 years.The upper mounts for the rear shocks were reinforced with metal mounting plates a few years ago.No other cracks have been brought to my attention.I have all the maintenance records since I have owned the car and a few from the prior owner.Klanci
Great looking car. Do you currently hold the maintenance records for the car? Have you ever sent the oil out to Blackstone to have it tested for any signs of barring wear? Has the rear subframe been inspected for cracks and if so, when was that performed? I look forward to hearing back.
@Quest I have 2 original functional keys.Regretfully I don’t have the window sticker.A brand new battery was recently installed in January with the new rear tires.Both right and left air bag recalls are just completed.Klanci

The ECU tune was done by the prior owner who did the majority of the upgrades.He claimed a 25 hp bump .I have no further details regarding it.The transmission has never had any issues in all the years I have owned it and the prior owner claimed the same.Klanci
