DT: 24k-Mile 2004 Porsche 996 Carrera 6-Speed

Now available is this low-mileage 2004 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior.  In addition to its 6-speed manual gearbox, this second-generation 996 showcases desirable options including Sport Chassis (030), Sport Seats, Flared Rocker Panels, a Sports Exhaust system, and more.  A lifelong California car that has been driven less than 1,500 miles per year on average, this final model year 996 Carrera is now being offered by the seller in Tracy, CA while showing just under 24k miles on the odometer.

This 996 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX.  From the factory, this example was equipped with optional GT3-style flared rocker panels. The windows have been tinted and this Carrera rides on a set of custom-made 19” three-piece wheels.

Inside, the black interior features optional factory Sport Seats as well as door sills in stainless steel and the Bose High-End Sound Package.  Sold at an original sticker price of over $81k, the complete list of factory specifications reads as follows:

  • 030      Sport Chassis
  • 342      Heated Seats
  • 411      18" Carrera Wheel
  • 446      Wheel Caps with Color Crest
  • 476      Porsche Stability Management (PSM)
  • 680      BOSE High-End Sound Package
  • AE        Sport Seats - Black
  • M6A    Black Mats - Porsche lettering

The second-generation 996 is equipped with a 3.6L flat-six engine that produces as much as 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven through a desirable 6-speed manual transmission.  The Sport Chassis (030) option increases ride stiffness while the optional Sports Exhaust system provides enhanced sound.  The seller also reports that this car’s suspension has been lowered. All available maintenance history is provided on CARFAX which shows all services to have been addressed by the same Porsche dealer from new up until 2010 at 20k miles.  A fresh oil change was carried out in preparation for sale and this 996 is said to meet California emissions requirements.

This sale will include a set of two keys, owner's books, a spare tire, and a clean title.  With its driver-focused factory options and low mileage, this 2004 Carrera is not to be overlooked.

Yeah, I think $40k is a stretch without original or at least factory wheels and no documentation of IMS, especially on a low mile car. Options here are great, I would take a C2 with these options (sport seats, exhaust, suspension!) over a 4S any day.

  • Skindoc (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 1 dayago

IMHO 34k is a fair value range for this 996. Reserve at 40k is definitely competing with C4S and 997. See how she does in deal tank.

@nafs nice options here, for sure.

Nice 996s have been in 997 price territory for the last year. Rare color or clean car with good options brings the money.

    @Skindoc Early base 997s, maybe.

    Into 997 territory here...

Is this an investment car to garage or is it a low mileage driver???

    Either way, nice 996

@RogerB The car has been inspected thoroughly and no issues were found. I don’t have any documented proof of the IMS and Porsche worn share any information. Recent maintenance include oils change and alignment. In 2011, the car most likely wasn’t driven enough to require much maintenance.

What are the spots on the roof?

  • Xcel9808 (seller) 2 weeks, 2 daysago

@EDMF the car still smells new ! The interior looks new, leather is soft. The interior shows no sign of wear.

Do you know if any of the owners of this car smoked in it?

@playswithporsches The paint is all original with reading of 1.2-1.4 mills all the way around.

  • RogerB 2 weeks, 2 daysago

WRT "Transmission Removed and Replaced," don't you have to do that to change the main seal? I doubt it indicates anything at all with the IMS. Also, Carfax is great, but leaves a lot of holes. Do you have any docs at all to indicate maintenance activity after 2011?

@playswithporsches the name of my dealership is Xcel Motors. The wheels are 3 piece aluminum but I didn’t see any mfr markings on them. I’ll see if I can get some paint readings today.

Hello seller. @Xcel9808 What is the name of the dealership selling the car? Any idea what brand the wheels are? Any paintwork? Paint meter readings possible? Thank you

The car has Eibach lowering springs (7213.140 kit). This kit lowers the car 1.0 inch front and rear. The wheels are 19” 3-piece aluminum.

  • Xcel9808 (seller) 3 weeksago

The car had an oil change and alignment a few weeks ago.

  • Xcel9808 (seller) 3 weeksago

No records other than the transmission being removed and reinstalled at the dealership with less than 5k miles on it. The car drives and feels great. My mechanic was impressed !

  • Xcel9808 (seller) 3 weeksago

@jrocco1971 I believe the XSU has to do with the thickness of the seat cushions

  • Xcel9808 (seller) 3 weeksago

@Skindoc when I first acquired the car I noticed it was lowered. I wasn’t sure it was factory or aftermarket. The springs look oem, I will post some photos shortly. The ride quality feels stock

  • Xcel9808 (seller) 3 weeksago

@danwink I don’t have any official documents but if you look on the Carfax it states the transmission was removed and installed at the dealership around 5k miles . That’s the only clue I have of the IMS being changed

  • Skindoc (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

How was the suspension lowered as this M030 factory suspension should sit 10mm lower from factory, I believe?

Have the springs been swapped or?

    Thanks, nice 996, GLWA

  • jrocco1971 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

Yeah...real curious about the IMS/RMS history and what happened to the OEM wheels?? Also, what exactly is the “Lowered Seats” option, XSU? Never heard of that before...

  • danwink 3 weeks, 1 dayago

Hi- no evidence of an IMS upgrade on this fine 996?
