DT: 20K-Mile 2004 Porsche 996 GT3 3.8L

Now up for auction is this 2004 Porsche 996 GT3 3.8L.  Reported by its seller to be 1 of only 23 examples finished in Basalt Black Metallic, this very unique 996 showcases a flat-six Mezger engine that has been upgraded to a 3.8 L displacement by DeMan Motorsports along with some other modifications at a cost of over $32k.  Offering a custom close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox and an upgraded output of approximately 450 HP, this exceptional 996 GT3 is now being offered by its seller in New York while showing just under 20k miles on the odometer.

The rarely seen Basalt Black Metallic finish is noted to be in excellent original condition with paint protective film applied over the front bumper, hood, fenders, and A-pillars.  Detailed images and paint meter readings are provided in the photo gallery.  Unique aerodynamic features on the GT3 include a fixed rear wing, side skirts, and a revised front fascia with a lip spoiler. This GT3 is factory optioned with Bi-Xenon headlights, a painted rear model designation, and standard GT3 wheels which are finished in silver and dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

Inside, this GT3 highlights a nicely appointed Black leather interior with Alcantara upholstery on the shifter and handbrake lever.  A custom thickened 3-spoke steering wheel has been installed along with a Rennline pedal set, and the interior is said to be in pristine condition with all gauges and accessories working properly. @Needsdecaf ,
    Thanks for the informative article.
It could have impacted a sale earlier during the bidding.
For anyone in the eastern U.S. , I will be returning the GT3 to my home in the K.C.Mo. area soon from the PCAR HQ. , in the NY. area. That could be a signifcant savings on transportation.
Thanks to all interested parties both bidders and observers. This GT3 is a very special 1 of a kind, not unlike my '04 RUF.

For anyone not familiar with the company that did the modifications to this engine, there is an article on Road and Track magazine's website about them, and the work they did on a Cayman GT4.

    @Philly215 totally overlooked that. Thanks

  • Philly215 (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 3 daysago

@Pcbloom The high paint readings look to me as only being on the front where the owner mentioned he has clear bra applied, so those all line up as they should accounting for the PPF film...at least thats what I would guess, without being able to check. Good luck seller!

  • Pcbloom (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 3 daysago

Can you comment on the high paint readings? Do you have any records for this?

  • jd-gt350 (seller) 2 weeks, 3 daysago

One other question I had was.... Are all the photos current 'YES".
PCAR as stated has the GT3 at there H.Q. and has provided all these fantastic photos.
    My thanks to them!

I received a comment in regard to a comparison to our FORD GT. NO I have not raced our GT3. The two car's briskly accelerated while entering I-70 heading across town to a local car show.
Most likely 2nd & 3rd gear. This GT3 has spent most of it's coddled life under a car cover or on display.
I contacted PCAR to have a DME report they don't currently have equipment to do one and it was to late in the auction to have one completed.

    "WOW"

@imsLOL I must assume that DeMAN's reputation is good and they know their business or they would not have charged the customer for something they did not deliver.
    I have a '06 FORD GT-H, with +600hp and this GT3 stays with it.

@jd-gt350 is there a dyno sheet you can post to back up the 450hp?

  • jd-gt350 (seller) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

@Philly215 The GT3 is located at PCAR headquarters,
they have technicians available, contact them.

446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
Those are the colored GT3 wheel caps,
The GT3 is colored black as opposed to silver like the rest of the center cap.
We must rely on PCAR for additional photos. .they have my PORSCHE @ their headquarters.

  • SBerastequi (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

    2) picture of the 4th wheel please.

@Sberger6 - I don't have the headers, but my 2004 GT3 has this "Fabspeed 200 Cell Sport Cats, Fabspeed X-Pipe and Performance Mufflers" and zero drone at all.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

    @jd-gt350 - got it.

  • jd-gt350 (seller) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

@Sberger6 ...'0' track days. I have no interest in trashing my cars and by appearance nor did previous owners.
If PPF is clear bra I replyed on that.
No drone noted by me or my wife when asked in the +1000k miles we drove this GT3. She just recalls the WONDERFUL seats!
    Jim

  • jd-gt350 (seller) 3 weeks, 2 daysago

@JNasty ....you overlook the fact that it has a very expensive clear bra, (as I call it). As described in the write up.

The car seems immaculate and is obviously built around track use. How many track days have you done? Is there PPF over any of the car? Lastly, does it drone with the current exhaust setup?

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 2 daysago

@jd-gt350 - 1) paint readings of 10-12 are re-paints? Versus the 3-4s? 2) is this the car that was for sale at Sloan?

  • jd-gt350 (seller) 3 weeks, 2 daysago

Hi to all...welcome to all interested PORSCHE fans. Up for bid is my GT3, I've enjoyed for several years now. To find a more perfect example you would need to go back to 2004 and order new from PORSCHE. Even then you would not have the performance of the undetectable, non stock, extra H.P.. This GT3 must give way for space in my collection a: '06 FORD GT-H, '74 911s , '12 911 cab.. I've held back the mileage to allow her next owner to see 20k roll over, so who gets that honor?
    Jim
