Hailed as one of the greatest water-cooled 911s of all, the original GT3 was developed as an FIA racing homologation special featuring the coveted Mezger flat-six engine. This 2004 example comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black leather interior with optional Guards Red seatbelts. It was acquired by the current owner out of Virginia in 2016 and has since received new Ohlins coilovers, semi-solid drivetrain mounts, a re-geared transmission, new brakes, tires, and a 997 GT3 RS clutch and flywheel.  Maintained to a very high standard and optimized for track-going performance, this 996 GT3 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of New Jersey showing approximately 30k miles on the odometer.

This 996 comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with optional Xenon headlamps and factory 18” GT3 wheels dressed in new Sumitomo tires. The car is said to have been completely refinished following an incident on track at VIR in 2008 and a corresponding invoice shows over $6k in subsequent repairs. The finish is described to have been kept in excellent overall condition, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The black leather interior includes hardback Sport Seats and exclusive seatbelts in Guards Red. Some signs of wear are noted on the console, sills, door panels, and radio buttons.  The optional full A/C and climate control unit has been removed, although the original parts are included in the sale.

The naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six Mezger engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission that sends as much as 380 HP and 284 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels. An upgraded 997 GT3 RS clutch and flywheel kit were installed in 2021 and the transmission was re-geared for performance in 2018.  Other upgrades include welded coolant pipes, semi-solid engine and transmission mounts, and new Ohlins Dedicated Track coilovers. The original suspension is said to accompany the sale along with corresponding service records and invoices.

This sale will include a clean title and a binder of documentation.

  • GTdriver (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

@naveed I do not. Frankly I never thought I would sell the car. I'm going to regret it. Its the first example of the GT3 - and they will never make another like it.

is the seller just not going to engage here?

as as owner of both 996 & 997 gt3 I will say the best one to drive will always be the 996. Something about the rawness and steering input. I hope whoever wins this enjoys her and drives her with purpose.

Know the seller so I'm biased but I'd say a couple of things: 1) he's passionate about the brand and this car, in particular; 2) He's taken me out for a "spirited drive" in this car and it performs flawlessly; and 3) I saw this car at a cars and coffee recently and it's absolutely beautiful. Buyer will not be disappointed

@Hemibob Line 50 shows no hours - so obviously nothing was done. My understanding from the previous owner was that the quarter panel was damaged and replaced along with the side of the rear bumper cover. The new rear bumper cover is a porsche part but its the euro version (no bump outs around lic plate) and looks better. The paint on the car is flawless - not a scratch or a chip anywhere.

  • Hemibob (registered bidder) 1 year, 11 monthsago

@gtdriver Thanks for the response. Just trying to understand the extent of the damage. Per the repair invoice, (line 2 and 50) it sounds like there was heavy damage. But with only costing 6k for repairs? Maybe it’s 2008 labor pricing of 50.00 per hour I have to get my head around.

  • GTdriver (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

@Hemibob I do not have damage photos from 08. The car was indeed completely repainted. I do have the transmission invoice and will send to pcar to post. The previous owner removed the compressor only. (I believe for performance). The remainder of the system is there. I have compressor in box. Would not be hard to install and complete. I just never did it.

  • Hemibob (registered bidder) 1 year, 11 monthsago

Do you have any photos of the damage from back in 08? Also was the car completely repainted? What was done to trans when re-geared? Invoice? With the a/c, what was removed and was it done when you owned the car or previous owner?

  • Mos289 (registered bidder) 1 year, 11 monthsago

Know this car well. Seller is solid as well as the car, especially if you value the mods. GLWS!

Beautiful car. Some nice upgrades indicated. Suggest providing a copy of the $6k repair/refinish invoice. Interesting that the on-track incident escaped notice of CarFax. I guess the carfox was sleeping in 2008.
