We are pleased to offer this 2004 Porsche 996 Carrera 4S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black full leather interior.  Among the most desirable models of the 996 generation, this C4S highlights Turbo derived styling and sought-after factory options including a 6-speed manual transmission, Custom Tailoring, Sport Exhaust, a Sport Shifter, the Aluminum/Chrome Package, Technic Package, and Bose High-End Sound Package.  Originally sold in California where it had remained up until 2013, this 996 was purchased by the current owner in Idaho about two years ago and is now being offered for auction with approximately 78k miles showing on the odometer.

This 4S is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and features stainless steel tailpipes as part of the Exclusive Aluminum/Chrome Package.  The front and rear bumpers are said to have been professionally refinished for cosmetic purposes and a few minor imperfections have been noted including rock chips on the front end and a couple of small cracks in the taillight lenses.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  The 4S shares its wide fenders and bumpers with the Turbo model and features its own unique rear reflector band spanning between the taillights.  This example rides on Anthracite 18” Turbo wheels that have been dressed in new General G Max tires within the last 300 miles.

Inside, this 996 features a premium black full leather interior with exclusive factory details including stainless steel door entry guards with model logos and aluminum instrument dials.  Other optional features include a Sport Shifter, the Bose High-End Sound Package, heated front seats, the Xenon Headlamp Package, and the Technic Package.  New Porsche floor mats have been recently installed and all gauges and accessories are said to remain fully functional, although the vanity mirror covers are currently missing.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.6L flat-six engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.  As much as 315 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque are sent to all four wheels allowing for acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds with a top speed of over 170 MPH.  Some previous maintenance history is provided on CARFAX and service records have been kept by the current owner over the past two years including oil changes and the recent replacement of the coolant expansion tank. The car is currently undergoing a pre-purchase inspection by Lupo Motors and will have a fresh oil service along with new drive belts installed prior to sale.  The results of the inspection will be posted to the photo gallery soon, and there is no record of an IMS bearing replacement.

This sale will include the owner's manuals, toolkit, spare tire, jack, battery charger, and a clean title. With its Exclsuvie factory options and 6-speed manual transmission, this Carrera 4S is just waiting to be enjoyed.

Never do anything at Porsche dealership. My 996, oil change, wiper blade replacement, cabin air filter replacement and check up $672, plus tax, I got all that done and strut replacement on frunk for $119. The dealer is charging $200 an hour labor and some of the mechanics where not even born when the car was produced.

@johnrmitch Oh, that's not bad at all. Thanks again!

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@JACS911 it cost me around $500 to have it performed.

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@JACS911 It’s about 1600.00 (at a Porsche Dealership) and I would suggest a change of spark plugs if done from above.

Hi John - I'm curious to the cost of performing the borescope inspection. Do you know what is involved in doing one? Thanks

@luis.seneriz they mentioned the paint not matching in the PPI. And I am not just saying this to try to up the bid, but to my untrained eye, the paint differences are not that noticeable!

    My friends car came from
a small dealer in Denton Texas. The reason I know so much about it is because I drove with him to pick the car up. I drove his truck back to Houston and he drove the car. That was 2 years ago and both him and me where not that knowledgeable about these cars, anyway whole different story today. Seller can you tell us anything else that came up in the PPI, the bores look good. I personally have a 3/98 coupe that has been modified and it’s a blast to drive, I do love ?? the as? On the 4s. I’m still in it.

@luis.seneriz Just out of curiosity, where did your friend buy the 40AE car with the bore scoring? I was looking at one in Los Angeles that was scored...

  • Toddyus (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@johnrmitch Thank you for uploading the report

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Toddyus I just uploaded their notes.

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Toddyus I should have the report shortly!

  • Toddyus (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

John, thanks for uploading the boroscope pictures. Did your shop having any commentary on the findings? You had also mentioned that you were getting a PPI. I see the compression test figures, but were there any other findings? Can you provide the (over) rev report from the PPI?

The compression test and boroscope photos have been posted. Also had them take better undercarriage photos.

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

    @Mercyhealth thank you!

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@johnrmitch Thank you for bringing this fine example of the 996 C4S for us to look at. Also you are doing an excellent job in responding to the potential buyers. The fact that you will bring pictures of the bores is far and above what most sellers would do. I don’t hear any piston slap, the pipes especially on the driver’s side are not sooty, and with a clean oil analysis you can’t really provide more information needed to rule out scoring (except the results of the scope). Really well done! And IMO should be part of any sale of a M96/97 gen 1 vehicle. The fact that the IMS has not been mitigated may be factored into the sale. But this topic has been beaten to death. So no more said on that.

Seller please don’t let this go for less than it’s worth. Good luck to you and all the potential bidders on this very well maintained gen 5 911.

@Wheels I will make sure it’s uploaded tomorrow morning before the auction ends!

  • Wheels (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Really can't bid till the results of the horoscope are in...

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Wheels since I’ve owned it, I send oil samples in to make sure it’s free of debris. I’ve sent 3 oil samples and they’ve all been clean.

  • Wheels (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

I know your listing says no record of IMS replacement, but can you add other info on the IMS Bearing?

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Hello all, I did have a boroscope performed, but I haven’t received it due to the holiday weekend. I will post as soon as I receive it!

@luis.seneriz such a bummer to hear that. Thanks again for the recommendation. I really appreciate it! I want to be as transparent as possible!

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Thats the way to sell the car, is everything comes back good you should be getting top dollar for your car. its really painful for someone to buy a car and then all of the sudden engine rebuild, a friend bought a 40th anniversary unseen and now he is facing an engine rebuilt within the first year do to bore scoring, because he has his X51 package that is going to be close to a $25,000 engine.

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@luis.seneriz thank you for the recommendation. Lupo will perform boroscope and compression test.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Ask anyone in here if you can guarantee the buyer that there is no scoring on the cylinders the car is definitely going to fetch a lot more money. This is always a risk on m96/97 engines with lokasil 2
    Coating.

@luis.seneriz I don’t have Lupo scheduled to boroscope but I can find out if it’s something they can do.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

That’s great are they going to boroscope to check for scoring, and what engine oil have you been using on the car?? Thanks

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@luis.seneriz no, I have it in for an oil change and to replace drive belts. I just wanted a fresh PPI for anybody to see. They are also taking better pics of the undercarriage for me since they have a lift. They are not bidding on it.

  • johnrmitch (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

    @luis.seneriz no mods.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Why is Loui doing a ppi on the car?? Did you arange for this or are they goi g to be bidding on it? Thanks

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Does the car has any mods??? Thanks
