Up for auction is this 2004 Porsche 996.2 Carrera presented in Seal Grey Metallic over a Graphite Grey interior.  The second phase Porsche 996 was launched in 2002 debuting aesthetic revisions and an increased engine capacity of 3.6 L.  This 2004 6-speed example had spent several years in storage prior to the current owner’s purchase in 2018.  Said to have been driven approximately 3k miles since this time while being kept up to date on all due maintenance, this 996 is now being offered for auction showing just under 46k miles on the odometer.

Stated to have always been garage kept, the Seal Grey Metallic finish is noted to be in excellent condition.  A collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery.  The second phase Porsche 996 features a revised front fascia with updated headlights derived from the Turbo model.  This 996 rides on factory 18” Carrera wheels which come dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport tires from 2019.

Inside, the cabin is upholstered in standard Graphite Grey leather with the optional aluminum look/stainless steel/chrome package.  The interior is stated be in great shape with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional.  Commanding an original sticker price of over $79k, this Carrera showcases the following factory options:

  • BOSE High End Sound System
  • Power Seats
  • Bi-Xenon Headlights with Washers
  • Porsche Stability Management (PSM)
  • Aluminum Look/Leather Shift Knob and Brake Handle

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.6 L flat six engine rated at 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a desirable 6-speed manual transmission making for a 0-60 time of approximately 5 seconds.  An upgraded aftermarket air intake system has been installed which provides for mild performance gains as well as an enhanced engine note.  Stated to have always been serviced by an authorized Porsche dealer under the current ownership, this 996 received a new mass air meter in 2019 and a full 40k mile service in 2018 which included new seal rings, spark plugs, fluids and filters.  No evidence of an IMS bearing service is available, however this Carrera is stated to be in excellent running order and up to date on all due maintenance.

The sale of this 996.2 will include two keys, original books and tools, service records and floormats.  Do not miss your chance to get behind the wheel of this well-presented 2004 Porsche Carrera.

@J4177 hello. The seller reached out to us by telephone because she’s currently in her home in a blackout due to a storm with no access to the Internet. She said that this was before her ownership, and that the seller informed her of the car was sold between two family members prior to her ownership. Hope this helps. Good luck to all on this beautiful 996

I agree the car looks clean and deals on 996.2’s are few nowadays, especially with what I now consider low miles of anything under 59k.

... and contrary to current opinion, I think a clean Graphite interior will have its day as common black, warped Draped, or dirty Savannah are the usual choices—or lack thereof

    @J4177 fair enough

Just asking a legitimate question and just wanted to see if the owner could speak to it before bidding on a car halfway across the country. Good luck all

@Brecktex I guess @ gr8scrpt beat me to it. While I agree with most of what he said, if you are a collector and multiple owners bothers you then don’t buy. My comment was mainly to illustrate that carfax is sometimes a bigger pain than a help.

@Brecktex bottom line I’m a bidder here so if you aren’t maybe a cheaper price for me :-)

@Brecktex understood. It really depends on your level of experience. I buy my cars based on the caliber vehicle itself, I’ve learned that getting caught up in title and ownership history (while it can provide some clarity as to the condition of the car) is really irrelevant if the car is in impeccable condition with no issues.

I’ve seen many one owner car’s that are absolute trash and multiple owner vehicles that were gems as well as the opposite scenario. The bottom line, I bought some truly spectacular cars in my lifetime that I really enjoyed and they did have multiple entries on CARFAX like this. Looking past it is sometimes the best way to go if the car is in really good shape

@J4177 if I had a dollar for every unexplainable carfax entry......

looks like a heck of an example. Wouldn’t get to caught up in the trivial carfax entries. Can drive you nuts.

According to the Carfax it looks like the car was sold 2 extra times but not properly recorded. Any idea why? Thanks

@binsonfresco Thank you very much! It is a beautiful car..I am a senior in my seventies and beginning to have issues with my knees. I learned to drive at age eleven on a stick shift truck and has always owned a manual and automatic transmission automobile. This car has been pampered, loved and taken care of by a Porsche Dealership..It still has the new car smell . Happy Bidding!!
