The CL65 AMG was introduced in 2003 as the range-topping high-performance version of the Mercedes-Benz C215 CL-Class, equipped with a handbuilt 6.0L Biturbo M275 V12 producing 604 HP and 738 lb.-ft of torque, a multi-link electro-hydraulic Active Body Control suspension, 8-piston brake calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers in the rear, two-piece 19” AMG wheels, an AMG aerodynamic package,  and a suite of luxury amenities. This 2005 example is said to be one of only 142 CL65 AMG models produced for the 2005 model year, and one of just 777 ever produced. It was delivered new to Mercedes-Benz of Pompano Beach, Florida in December of 2005, and was ordered in Black over a Graphite/Anthracite AMG Exclusive Nappa leather interior. Benefitting from a lifetime of dealership service, this rare 2005 CL65 AMG is now being offered at auction by its seller out of California showing approximately 52k on the odometer.

The exterior is finished in Black (040U) with chrome body trim and an AMG-specific aerodynamic kit consisting of revised front and rear bumper covers, side skirts, and an integrated rear trunk spoiler. Equipment includes self-leveling bi-xenon projector headlights with washers, foglights, power-adjustable heated door mirrors with integrated LED indicators, pillarless windows, silver brake calipers with black AMG script,  “V12 Biturbo” fender badging, and quad exhaust tips. The seller reports that the front bumper cover, a portion of the left front fender, and the trunk lid were repainted for cosmetic reasons, and notes some minor imperfections throughout, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The 19” two-piece AMG wheels wear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires displaying date codes from 2018.

The cabin features 14-way power-adjustable heated, ventilated, and massaging multi-contour front seats, upholstered in Anthracite AMG Exclusive Nappa leather, with a color-coordinated dashboard, center console, door panels, and carpeting, complimented with a Graphite Alcantara headliner. Walnut burred wood trim lines the center console, rear console, door panels, and door switch panels. Amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control, Keyless GO keyless entry, a 10-speaker BOSE premium sound system, a COMAND infotainment center with navigation and Bluetooth, a rear roller sunshade, V12 Biturbo instrumentation, AMG-branded tread plates, and heated windscreen washers. The seller reports that the massage function of the front seats is inoperable, the rear headrests are stuck in the lower position, the front passenger seat has a small tear in the cushion, and the driver’s seat shows some minor creasing on the seating surface and seatback.

The CL65 AMG is powered by a handcrafted 6.0L Biturbo M275 V12 producing 604 HP and 738 lb.-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through an AMG Speedshift 5-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration to 0-60 MPH occurs in approximately 4 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 155 MPH. Performance features include an adaptive Active Body Control suspension, lightweight two-piece cast iron/aluminum front hubs and rotors with 8-piston brake calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers in the rear, Electronic Stability Program, and Touch Shift buttons behind the steering wheel. In the last 1000 miles, this CL65 AMG has received new front brake rotors and pads, an A service, a transmission service, a brake and cooling system flush, a new battery, a replacement differential, and two Active Body Control high-pressure lines. The CARFAX report shows a history of dealership maintenance since new, carried out by authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Florida and Washington.

This sale will include 3 keys, owner's manuals, associated sales literature, and comprehensive service records.

Let's review this car as we approach the end of the auction. As I mentioned in the driving video, I feel low production younger AMG models are the cars to own if you have an eye toward future values. And to parse the ideal car further, AMG V12s will be even more exciting to the younger MB classic enthusiast. According to the AMG experts I've spoken to only 142 were constructed in 2005.

    Rarity is the key here.

The driving dynamics of this car are other worldly with basically no vices. You can use it regularly AND show it at any MBCA event and have some fun.

I drove a CL 65 three times. On my first drive, from a stop sign, in our rural neighborhood, I gave it a "half punch" up to about 60. The power was tremendous. The interior was pure luxury. They are complex.

@1969911Ss Thanks for the note. Our paintwork was to correct misc. stone chips, the typical lower front valance scuffs and some light abrasions. Typical cosmetics on a car of this age and mileage…and power! There has been no accident damage.

  • 1969911Ss (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

what a beautiful car. two questions : the repaints where from something other than accident/damage ? its been more than a decade since I ventured into 12 cyl land, $10k tune ups, electrical glitches that only the dealer can diagnose, (sometimes), etc etc. is this more user friendly? would love to own it. hope its not why you are selling it.

  • floman (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Gorgeous car. Would love to hear that amazing engine running.........

@Jaykay3 Up, I agree. I sold a 24k mile 1988 560SEC in Signal Red last month. Fabulous car.
The slim 215 series coupes were a welcome relief from the massive 140 slab sided models and were trimmer than the subsequent 216 series.

This and the 560 SEC...two of the handsomest big coupes ever. I want this!
