DT: 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera S 6-Speed

Now up for auction is this 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera S Coupe finished in Black over a black interior.  In addition to its 6-speed manual gearbox, this first-generation 997 showcases the factory optioned Bose High-End Sound Package, Porsche crested headrests, and Sport Chrono Package Plus.  Purchased by its 3rd and current owner in 2009, this lifelong California car has been kept in excellent condition with a complete history of service dating back to new.  It is now being offered out of Lake Forest, CA with approximately 42k miles showing on the odometer.

The Black finish on this 997 is said to be in fantastic overall condition except for some slight road-going wear on the front fascia (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Factory 19” Carrera S “Lobster Fork” wheels are retained and dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires.  The seller reports the rear tires to have been recently replaced within the last 100 miles and the front tires are said to have approximately 70% tread remaining.

Inside, this Carrera S features a black standard leather interior with the Power Seat Package, Porsche crested headrests, and the Bose High-End Sound Package.  Other options listed on the $86,810 factory specification sheet include PCM with navigation, a remote 6-disc CD changer, and the Sport Chrono Package Plus which adds a lap timer to the center of the dashboard.  The cover for the driver’s side vanity mirror has fallen off, and the interior is said to be in otherwise excellent condition with all gauges and accessories working properly.  A computer scan revealed an error code for a headlight module, however, this is reported to have no effect on the operation of the vehicle.

This first-generation 997 Carrera S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8 L flat-six engine that sends 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission.  With the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus adding variable performance settings, this Coupe is capable of accelerating from 0-60 MPH in as little as 4.5 seconds while reaching a top speed of over 185 MPH.  All service records are included dating back to the original purchase showing proper routine maintenance.  The IMS bearing has not been addressed and the seller confirms this 997 to be in excellent running order while meeting California emissions standards.

This sale will be accompanied by a set of 2 keys, owner’s manuals, tools, service records, and a clean California title.  With only 42k miles shown on the odometer, this beautifully presented 6-speed Carrera S makes the perfect choice for any enthusiast in search of a Porsche 997.

@BW911 contacted you via PM to try to see the car. on Sunday. Thanks

@Pilot602 Good post. What I understand is early '05's as you implied are serviceable and later '05's start the conversion to not serviceable. So that leads to the question of what is "early" and I assume evaluating the VIN and data explaining dates will define that. Important point for sure and in my 06 987.1 I had the DOF solution put in.

    PM'd you. Please advise.

@GT3-guy not true. 2006-2009 yes. 2005 was a transitional year, meaning you may have the small single row “serviceable” IMS bearing OR you may have the third iteration, LARGE single row bearing which is, indeed, only serviceable via an engine tear down. Engine number (stamped on the bottom, driver’s side case above the sump plate) can give an indication of what might be in the engine but the only foolproof way is to physically inspect the engine.

  • GT3-guy 2 weeksago

@BW911 IMS bearings from 05-09 are a fixed bearing and cannot be replaced unless you do a complete motor tear down... so you couldn’t replace that bearing if you wanted too...

I know you talked about the DME report reporting no over-revs but can you post the actual DME report so we can see the ranges. Thanks

  • BW911 (seller) 3 weeksago

@cap2616 Hi , the IMS bearing has not been replaced or checked recently to see if needs replacing . This does not mean it needs replacing at all . I will copy an early response to address this question .
Regarding the IMS bearing, the 2005 was a redesign year and the failure rate has been recorded as minimal for that year. Failure rates were often reported on vehicles with extremely low mileage as the bearings received insufficient lubrication. Throughout the vehicle’s life, no metal shavings or contaminants were found during its oil changes. A direct oil feed kit can be installed to ease any concerns of the IMS.

    Hello,

“ The IMS bearing has not been addressed”

Does this mean it HAS NOT been checked to see if this model needs replacing or it HAS been checked and deemed that replacing is not necessary?

    Thanks

When did you exact date acquire the car?

  • JasonMoore (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

Autocheck states that a CA State agency reported it on 9/02/09. Not all Carfax are correct. Autocheck is a reputable platform so I am concerned about transparency.
