Up for auction is this 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera 4S Cabriolet finished in black over a black full leather interior.  Characterized by precise modern performance and a visceral feel, the 997 generation has become a favorite amongst discerning drivers and Porsche enthusiasts alike.  This lightly modified 2006 example is accompanied by an original window sticker totaling over $114k which includes exclusive features like the Bose High End Sound Package and Sport Chrono Package Plus.  Highlighting a 6-speed manual transmission delivering power to all four wheels, this two-owner 997 is now being offered for auction in great driving condition showing approximately 51k miles on the odometer.

The black finish is stated to be in great shape with minimal signs of wear and paint protection film applied over the front bumper. The Carfax report does note some minor damage, though the seller states that there are no issues whatsoever.  The seller also notes that the front and rear bumpers have both been professionally refinished to a very high standard.  Visual modifications include smoked taillight lenses and side markers as well as aftermarket 19” TechArt wheels which are finished in black and come dressed in new Bridgestone Potenza tires.  Some minor curb rash has also been noted which is depicted in the photo gallery.

This 997 features a black full leather interior with heated Adaptive Sport Seats.  Exclusive options include a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel in leather, telephone and navigation modules for PCM, the Bose High End Sound Package and self-dimming mirrors.  No modifications have been made other than a remote Escort radar detector which is custom mounted in the dashboard.  The interior is said to remain in very good condition with all gauges and accessories reported to be fully functional, although the front trunk release is broken and may only be operated with the key.

This Carrera 4S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8 L flat-six engine rated at 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque stock.  All four wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission making for a 0-60 time of approximately 4.7 seconds.  Modifications include a K&N cold air intake and an Agency Power exhaust system with headers and stainless-steel tips.  The factory Sport Shifter makes for quick and precise gear changes while the Sport Chrono Package Plus adds dynamic performance settings to choose from.  In 2012 at 24,410 miles, a lower engine rebuild was carried out along with an IMS bearing replacement.  A new clutch was also installed in 2017 at 45,645 miles.  Stated to have always been properly serviced at an authorized Porsche dealership, this 997 underwent a recent oil change and remains in excellent mechanical order.

The sale of this Carrera 4S will include the original books and window sticker, service records from new and a set of two keys.  If you have been in the market for a 997, this nicely maintained and tastefully modified 4S Cabriolet is not to be overlooked.

are the original rims available with purchase?

  • scragin (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

@Jendres That's too bad. I understand the styling statement, but still never understood why anyone would want to reduce the visibility of their tail/brake lights. Did you install some super-bright LEDs to compensate? Is the high light also "tinted"?

  • Jendres (seller) 3 years, 10 monthsago

@ez1973 Thanks, sorry no...it was painted to tint

  • ez1973 (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

The car looks beautiful! Just wondering, can the taillight film/tint be removed?

@Jendres , thank you for the detailed response. I assume then that it was replaced with a factory bearing. If this was a coupe it would check all the boxes for me. I am looking to replace my 996 Cabriolet and I just dont have the top down that often in Michigan.

  • Jendres (seller) 3 years, 10 monthsago

@GPappy after reading about the 2002-2005 class action lawsuits against Porsche for IMS problem I became helper aware. I started to hear a faint ticking sound from the motor and subsequently brought my car to the Porsche dealer. Everything checked out fine and the car was released. I felt The faint sound was still there so I asked the dealer to investigate more. After many additional tests including stethoscope? The mechanic said we would have to look deeper and start taking it apart. After doing so he found the broken bearing. The car was fix and lower end totally rebuilt for good measure to the tune of almost 14k. I missed the class action filling deadline however . The car has been perfect ever since.

  • GPappy (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

Would the seller please comment on what drove the need for a lower end rebuild and what IMS bearing was used?
