Now up for auction is this 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S 3.8 L.  Presented in Arctic Silver Metallic, this 2006 example has undergone a custom full engine rebuild with a 3.8 L upgraded displacement providing for a claimed output of up to 400 HP.  Having been driven less than 1k miles since the engine rebuild, this 3.8 L U.S.-spec 987 remains in excellent turn-key driving condition with its seller in Canada while showing approximately 86k miles on the odometer.

The Arctic Silver Metallic paint is said to be in very good overall condition with slight stone chipping.  Carfax shows minor cosmetic damage to the front end in 2008 which has since been professionally repaired with the refinishing of the front bumper and left front quarter (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Optional Bi-Xenon headlights are equipped and this Cayman rides on a set of aftermarket Braelin wheels which are finished in satin black and dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

The Black standard leather interior is reported in great shape.  Factory options include the Bose Surround Sound System, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and heated front seats.  GPS navigation has been integrated along with an aftermarket Bluetooth receiver, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

The original 3.4 L flat-six engine in this 987 has been completely rebuilt with nickel silicon carbide coating and upgraded to a 3.8 L displacement by LN Engineering.  During this time all engine components were replaced, APR racing hardware was installed, and the IMS bearing was upgraded with an LN Engineering kit. The engine was then reassembled by ZOROTECH with APR racing hardware and topped off with an FVD Brombacher tune. This engine is claimed to make up to 400 HP with an aftermarket intake, exhaust, and throttle body.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission allowing the driver to take full control of the immediate naturally aspirated power.  PASM active suspension is also equipped from the factory. With just over 800 miles driven on the rebuilt engine, this Cayman S is said to be fully broken-in and ready to be enjoyed.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, the original window sticker, and the owner’s manuals.  If you are looking for a mid-engine naturally aspirated sports car, this custom 3.8L Cayman S makes the perfect choice.

@Pnut964 So, the car's displacement was increased by 11.76% and it now has 360hp. FVD Brombacher tune was installed to suit this increase. Stock exhaust, t.b and intake don't work at a maximum potential at 3.4L and are still sufficient for the 3.8L. Just as an FYI, Porsche built all cars concentrating on emissions in North America, rather than full potential of the engine power. As such, all 987s can gain at least 15hp extra just by adding the aftermarket tune.
For the track & competition, of course the upgraded ones would be a better alternative. There is definitely a noticeable and appreciative difference in power driving this car. I intentionally let the PCA DE instructor who owns a 981 test drive this car and he was impressed to say the least.

@Vocnjak Thank you for the detailed response. The way the ad is written by @Pcarmarket is completely misleading with regard to the 400 HP claim with the intake, throttle body, and exhaust. They make it sound as if these are existing components on the car and included in the sale. Shouldn’t even be part of the listing. I don’t care what the car could be.......as a potential buyer I care what the car is in its current state.

With that said, does the factory 3.4L designed intake, throttle body, and exhaust minimize the benefits from upgraded displacement? In other words, as a previous owner of a 2006 Cayman S, am I going to notice an appreciable power increase versus stock? If 3.4L is 295 HP stock, what’s your guess at HP as is with 3.8L displacement but restricted 3.4L airflow components?

@Pnut964 @Pnut964No problem, I'm happy to answer all the questions as I’ve worked on the car at my shop, ZOROTECH INC. (www.zorotech.ca) and everything was done to my standard.
As a Porsche specialist for over 20 yrs, I bought this car from a customer because it had a scored block and I did all the work to bring it back to life and it is now in mint condition, ready to be enjoyed.
    1) Yes, I have all the receipts. The engine block was machined at www.lnengineering.com and they also provided the upgraded IMS with the bearing. The rest was all purchased through my OEM suppliers and Porsche dealer.
    2) The car is 3.8L stock, OEM. I said to the PCARMARKET admin that the car has a potential for 400hp with the aftermarket exhaust, intake and throttle body. I left it at stock because of the durability and because I was not building it for the track. You can always add that at additional cost and for example, it can be a GT3 throttle body, IPD intake manifold and M&M system from FVD Brombacher.
    3) Tie rods, front sway bar links & bushings were done. The car is smooth without any noises or play. All maintenance is up to date and the car has all new engine components, water pump, thermostat, oil pump, air pump, water distribution pipe, spark plugs, injectors, oxygen sensors, coils, and serp belt.
    4) I’d say half life/half thread is left on the tires.
    5) No, there is no visible damage. I took the front bumper off and saw that the left radiator was in a poor shape, so I replaced it. The right side was inspected, cleaned and lubed, all good. All four wheel well covers were removed, inspected and checked. I think with the 'incident', the front left fender was replaced as a whole because I did not see or find any bonding. There is nothing visible on the car. Alignment was completed and everything is in green/spec. My guess is that the incidents were cosmetic as the chassis/frame are mint. I wouldn’t invest all the $ that was invested in the new engine, etc. if the car had any remarkable damage.
    6) No issues with the transmission; very smooth.
    7) The clutch was replaced two years ago, about 2000 miles ago, so there was no need for me to do it again. Same goes for the secondary air pump.
    8) Any battery drains or other electrical gremlins? None
    9) See answer for Q3, and there are no ignition wires or coil packs in this car. The coils are individual and they were replaced.
    10) Yes, I’m located in Stoney Creek, ON, only about 40 miles from the border. I’m just not sure if it’s possible with the Convid-19 measures at the border.

Seller, sorry for all of these questions at once. I will number them so you can respond by number:

    1) Do you have the receipts and documentation for the engine rebuild and parts purchased for the rebuild?
    2) Listing says aftermarket exhaust, intake, and throttle body. Can you elaborate on what brand these parts are?
    3) Aside from the engine, any other significant upgrades or maintenance in the last 5,000 miles such as brakes, suspension, steering, etc?
    4) How much life left in the tires?
    5) Looks like the car was involved in two accidents/incidents. Are there any visual indications of these? Panel misalignments, paint match issues, etc.?
    6) How does the transmission shift? Any stiffness or problems getting into gear?
    7) Was clutch replaced while engine was out? If not, is clutch original?
    8) Any battery drains or other electrical gremlins?
    9) Were coil packs, ignition wires, water pump all replaced when engine was rebuilt?
    10) Are you willing to meet at border crossing in Buffalo to do the transfer?

Again, sorry for the list of questions. I am an interested buyer. Thanks
