Up for auction is this 2008 Porsche 987 Cayman S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior. Factory equipped with a mid-mounted 3.4L flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission, this 987 was purchased by the seller in February of 2018 and has since been modified and optimized for autocross racing.  Some upgrades include aftermarket aerodynamic components, 18” OZ wheels, a Sharkwerks RS350 power kit, a full SOUL exhaust system, and Ohlins MR80 coilovers.  Under the current ownership, the car has always been garaged kept while being maintained exclusively by the specialists at Cantrell Motorsports.  Now showing approximately 93k miles on the odometer, this 987 is being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington accompanied by a collection of original parts and accessories, an extra set of wheels, and a clean title.

This 987 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and features an upgraded front splitter and rear diffuser from Joe Toth Composites.  Other modifications include LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, clear side marker lenses, and black side air intakes.  A ceramic coating has been applied and some signs of road-going wear are noted throughout the exterior.  CARFAX shows minor front-end damage to have occurred in 2014 which is believed to have been purely cosmetic, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  This Cayman S rides on a set of 18” OZ Racing wheels which come dressed in new Nitto NT01 tires bearing less than 100 miles of use.  An additional set of 20” Avant Garde wheels will also accompany the sale which come dressed in brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Inside, the black standard leather interior features a custom carbon-fiber pattern center console with an Alcantara-wrapped armrest and embroidered Porsche crest.  LED lighting has also been installed along with a Porsche-specific OBDII data scanner which works in conjunction with a mobile app.  Factory equipment includes heated front seats, the Bose High-End Sound Package, self-dimming mirrors w/ rain sensor, and PCM 2.1 w/ extended navigation.  All gauges and accessories are reported to be fully functional, although a TPMS warning light is currently illuminated on the dashboard as a result of faulty sensors in 18” OZ Racing wheels.

This 987 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4L flat-six engine which has been upgraded with a Sharkwerks RS350 power kit including EVOMS performance software, a handheld tuner, an IPD Competition plenum, BMC air filter, and 82mm 997 GT3 throttle body.  This kit alone offers a claimed output of up to 350 HP.  Other performance upgrades include cat-less SOUL racing headers, a full SOUL Competition exhaust system, Ohlins MR80 coilovers, Swift Racing springs, and braided stainless steel brake lines.  Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission.  The upgraded suspension was installed by Cantrell Motorsports who also performed a four-wheel alignment and corner balance for maximum performance.  New brake rotors and Pagid yellow brake pads are said to have been recently installed, and the air/oil separator was replaced during the current ownership.  All other routine maintenance is said to have been kept up to date by Cantrell Motorsports.

This sale will include a collection of original parts that have been removed from the car, an extra set of wheels, and a clean title. With a host of of high-end performance upgrades and custom features, this Cayman S provides an excellent value.

@Spokayman You are correct in everything you say. The car alone is worth 18k in our PNW market not modified. I can't shift my 996tt manual near the speed the tiptronic can in this car. For autocross the tiptronic is great, but on a road course the 996tt is much better.

Modified car’s don’t get any love when time to resell. The real problem is that those who want an automatic Cayman are typically not into autocross, DE, or racing. And yet the Tiptronic does very well as evidenced by the video.
Nonetheless I’d say this one was worth $20K or so in the current market.
Hope it finds the right person for which it’ll be just perfect.

I also found out information that the former wheels and tires were not sized appropriate to the car, the car's computer can not compensate for 20" wheels and tires causing extra mileage to be added to the odometer. So mileage is higher than actual mileage. What exactly would be the difference I'm not sure to be honest.

Just to let everyone know, I have about 13k invested in upgrades, with that said I understand you'll hardly ever get a return on investment of this type. Please ask any questions and I'll be on here daily to answer. I will try and post some videos of the car on Monday.

@alessio I've had the filter checked each oil change and had 0 issues. Now I haven't put a lot of miles on it since I've owned it or had mods done. Every year I've had oil change because it pops up the xxx days since last service, not miles.

keeping an eye on this, tip and all! Any smog concerns or whispers of the IMS issue?

  • Lovetheturbos (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@skyboltone Thank you, I built it to autocross then Covid hit, then I picked up a 996tt car at the end of last year. So now this sits and it deserves to be driven!
