We are pleased to present this rare 2008 Porsche 987 Cayman S Sport Edition finished in Carrara White. Denoting #532 out of 700 examples built, this limited-edition Cayman S highlights premium features including the Exterior Design Package in Black, a full leather interior with Alcantara upholstery, the Sport Exhaust System and Sport Chrono Package. Originally purchased at Porsche of Downtown Los Angeles and kept under the care of the same owners from new, this lifelong California car remains in impeccable overall condition with just over 14k miles currently showing on the odometer. It is now being offered by its seller in California accompanied by the original books and window sticker as well as service records and a recent DME report.
Reported to have always been garage-kept, the Carrara White finish is stated to be in excellent condition (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). This Sport Edition is distinguished by factory Porsche side graphics as well as the Exterior Design Package in Black which includes black sideview mirrors, black side vents, a black rear model designation and a black finish on the 19” Sport Design wheels. A small imperfection is indicated near one of the lug nuts on the driver's rear wheel and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are currently installed which bear approximately 1,500 miles of use.
Inside, you will find a specially configured Black full leather interior with carbon fiber bucket seats. Noteworthy details include an exposed instrument cluster, piano-black trim, deviated stitching and Alcantara upholstery on the Sport steering wheel, shift knob and emergency brake lever. A genuine Porsche short shift kit was installed at the dealership and a Safeguard fire extinguisher has been mounted under the driver’s seat by way of a Sharkwerks bracket. The cabin remains otherwise stock with a factory limitation placard located on the glovebox. Sold at an original sticker price of over of $80k, this 987 also showcases the following optional equipment:

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.4 L flat-six engine that is capable of producing 303 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a smooth 6-speed manual transmission which allows this coupe to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds. Sitting 10mm lower than a standard Cayman S, the Sport Edition is equipped with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the Sport Exhaust System and Sport Chrono Package as standard. The seller indicates that this example has seen very minimal track time consisting of only non-competitive D.E. events. All scheduled maintenance has been carried out through an authorized Porsche dealership and new spark plugs and coil packs were installed within the last 1500 miles. A DME report is provided for reference in the photo gallery.
Included in the sale of this Cayman S Sport Edition are a set of two keys, service records, factory books/manuals, the original window sticker, factory shifter mechanism, an indoor/outdoor car cover, sunshade, a clean Carfax report and a clean California title which is currently registered as non-operational. The seller confirms that the car will be smog checked prior to delivery to ensure that it may be re-registered in the state of California. Like @Rms2130 mentioned, there are a few Pcars that were considered undesirable and now valuable. Before I bought this car, I was interested in a 964 C2 with 70k miles for $19,900. It sat for several months and nobody wanted it. Enter Singer in the picture, now everyone wants a 964.
@Rms2130 the 944 isn't collectible. it's a beneficiary of the air cooled 911 bubble. but that's a different conversation. point is, as others have said, $38,500 was a very very fair price that anyone who was serious about selling would have accepted. i even said it was worth slightly more than that. but $45,000 is indicative of someone who is either A. not serious about selling, or B. extremely naive about what they have.
@lamacan Remember when people said the 944 would never be a collectible? This limited edition car will absolutely have a place in Porsche’s lineage— this is essentially the precursor to the R, and the subsequent GT4...the mid-engine greatness is slowly being widely accepted...
yeah agree with others. this is a $40,000 car at best. $45,000 is dreaming, but more power to you for sticking to your guns.
beautiful car, but no cayman will ever be a true collectible and the $40K mark is the top and i think they'll hold that value for a long time. $38,500 was a very fair bid.

@W31SSACH I sold mine (#520, GT3 Orange, 23k miles) back in 2016 for $35k, for what it's worth. I listed it initially for $41k and didn't get a single nibble!
@991.1GT3 @991.1GT3...I'm surprised as well. Maybe for $8K more you can get yourself into a Cayman R with twice the mileage. You've gotta love the tear drop tail lights on the R though, I personally have never been a fan of them.
Surprising this didn’t sell. This is very close to cayman R money yet 5 years older ....

Just to be clear, the "non operational" only reflects the status of the car's registration in California. The car is in fully functional and driveable condition.
@eye.surgeon Sure thing. So I would have the car smog tested. The passing results would be electronically sent to California DMV and would reside in their database. Once payment for the car has cleared, I will sign off on the title (pink slip). The new owner will then take the title to DMV and have title transferred to his/her name. DMV will see that the car has passed smog and will issue new registration, new tags, and title should take 2-3 weeks to arrive in the mail. If desired, I can assist with using a 3rd Party registration service (licensed by DMV) company that can assist (buyer will pay processing fees) with the formal transfer of ownership. This has proven to be more convenient in the past and is probably more convenient during this Covid time.
For those of us in California can you summarize how we would drive this car home when it is currently registered as non-operational ?

The Alcantara on the steering wheel, shifter, and brake handle is all in excellent condition. No tears, stains, or hardness. Alcantara is a synthetic "suede" and tends to harden after repetitive contact with natural oils or perspiration from skin. I always wore driving gloves when using the car.
I'd like to mention that an alignment was performed when the Sport Cup 2 tires were installed. Alignment and tire installation both done at Roger Kraus Racing. The alignment and tires really transformed the handling of this car over stock with the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. It really helped to eliminate some of the understeer in the car and made turn-ins more precise. The Sport Cup 2 tires have only been used on the street; no DE track use.
@scanderson76 Yes, the "what looks like another one" is definitely not an S Sport, but an S with some cosmetic changes (Cayman S script, fog light splitters in black, headlight rings decals). I know a guy that had a black S Sport. Because it was often hard for others to tell that it was an S Sport because the decals and side mirrors just blended into the body color. I kind of wish Porsche made the black cars with dark silver decals and mirrors. You're absolutely right about the green. It also happens with the '07-'08 GT3RS, where the green ones command more money than the more typical orange,
@W31SSACH agreed! For context, I see "what looks like another one" for sale on autotempest with a few more miles and no fancy seats for 32K. The one that sold on Rennlist a couple months ago was a black one. I can't do black, so I passed. I believe he received in the neighborhood of 35K for his with similar miles. The one that I did see that was tempting was in Texas in August for 37K and it was that bat shit crazy green color. If it wasn't so far away I would have seriously considered. Good luck on this one as it looks really well cared for.

@lamacan Thanks for the bid. Have you been actively seeking to buy one for the past 10 years? For me it was mere luck that I ended up with this car. I was not able to seal the deal on a 2008 Cayman S Design Edition 1 and then I came across this car and a Speed Yellow one with the same spec. sitting a the dealership in Los Angeles.

@lamacan All good points and thanks again for starting off the biding. The last one that I remember sold at auction back in December '19. It had 40K miles, no buckets, and sold for $40K. Obviously that was a long time ago and pre-Covid times. This car will definitely sell to someone that appreciates the spec and options. The seats alone sell on the used market for about $7K to $10K. There's lots of added value in getting a car with the buckets already installed and a window sticker to back it up as being original.

this should fetch at least $37K. there's one for sale with more than twice the miles, no buckets, no full leather for $32K asking. even at $40K+ this is a perfect car for someone looking for this and appreciates what it is.

@zachlangan Thanks for the compliment. The headrest and seat bolster covers were made by a gentleman that was advertising them on Planet-9.com Porsche Forum. Unfortunately, I cannot recall his name or user ID. All covers are made from Alcantara, but the color is slightly different from the Porsche grey. It's close but not an exact match. It is my understanding that Porsche's grey is a custom color and not one of the standard Alcantara colors that are available to the public.

Hello everyone! Many thanks to Pcarmarket for accepting this rare car for auction. For those that are not familiar with this model, it is the very last iteration of the 987.1 or first generation Cayman. It's believed that only 200 of these limited edition cars came to N. America. This particular car was ordered with the carbon fiber bucket seats, which for model year 2008 were only available on the GT2. The seats were not even available for the GT3 or GT3RS until the 2010-2011 997.2.
