DT: 2009 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car

Up for auction is this authentic 2009 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car.  Based on the GT3, the 997 GT3 Cup is a purpose-built factory race car featuring a lightweight construction, improved aerodynamics, full safety equipment, and a host of high-performance upgrades including a 3.6 L flat-six Mezger racing engine paired with a 6-speed sequential gearbox.  With a full service reportedly carried out by Orbit Racing within the last year, this race-ready 2009 example is now being offered by its seller in Florida.

The Carrara White painted lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) body panels are said to be in very good condition with some typical track-going wear. (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Some removable vinyl graphics have also been applied including a distinctive Martini Racing stripe down the center.  Other features include lightweight Lexan windows, aero mirrors, a large rear spoiler, a center-fill hood, and 18” center-lock BBS wheels with Pirelli P-Zero racing slicks.

Inside, you will find a lightweight racing cockpit devoid of any unnecessary amenities.  This example is outfitted with an OMP racing seat and steering wheel, Schroth safety harness, an ergonomic central control panel, a full roll cage, and a fire suppression system. A Motorola radio is also equipped as well as a MoTeC digital dash, and the seller confirms all electronics to be working properly.

The 997 GT3 Cup’s 3.6 L flat-six Mezger engine features an output of 394 HP and is paired with a 6-speed sequential manual gearbox that drives the rear wheels.  Other features include an adjustable brake bias control unit, a GT3 RSR derived suspension, and 380 mm front and 350 mm rear disc brakes.  A full service is said to have been carried out by Orbit Racing within the last year and this GT3 Cup is said to be in excellent running order.

This 997 will be accompanied by a bill of sale.  If you are looking to get out on the track in a highly competitive race car, this authentic GT3 Cup offers a perfect opportunity.

@Stachmiso not with so many unknowns. I find it fishy orbit serviced the car and couldn’t tell them the hours.

I bought the other 997 cup on here with 55 hours for 40k a few months ago. I guess I got lucky.

These cars didn’t come with ABS from factory and all signs point towards with it was not added on this vehicle. When added 9/10 the module would be in front boot by resv.

Pcar should adjust their terminology. Adjustable brake bias is NOT ABS!

ABS is a $7500-$12000 upgrade on this chassis.

I personally own a similar car. 2006 997 Cup. Other commenters are right. Tough sell (at a good price) without knowledge of engine/transmission hours.

Engine rebuild at PMNA starts at about $35k, I think Autometrics about $25k. Transmission rebuild $10-20k, depending on need for r&p or case.

Another item I'm far too familiar with.... when was the fuel cell bladder last replaced? Mine was bad. Fuel safe quoted $7,500 just for a replacement bladder. I spent less (but still a lot) to put a plastic OEM tank back in my car.

The 27,xxx odometer reading may be in KM or miles. Even if KM and assuming very low average speeds, the motor is over 200 hours. Undoubtedly, it's been rebuilt at least once. As the owner, you could reach out to PMNA and see if they have a record of any rebuild(s) there. If not, I'd try Autometrics. They do more cup motor rebuilds than anywhere else in North America.

It's going to be hard sell without running hours on engine and transmission.
I'm pretty sure Orbit Racing can read ECU for engine hours.
    Can you post full VIN?

@TheBaron do not see accident or tub damage. Do not have hours but Odom reading says 21,500 miles. This is a project for someone that would be doing a fresh build anyways perhaps? Regardless, a whole lot of car for the right person.

Thank you Baron. We accepted this car as a trade on a Turbo S coupe. Unfortunately it came without log books or service records. We sent it to Orbit Racing for a service. We have not tracked the car since acquiring it.
This is a great opportunity for someone to get a private track toy at a fraction of replacement cost as we have set reserve accordingly. We did not receive spares so the car with a racing fuel filler bottle is what is included. The car is an animal at startup, dogleg sequential gearbox works well. Too much car for most of our clients at our club events so we are selling. Thanks for your interest.

I agree with TheBaron. More factual and less fluffy descriptions would be helpful when considering a purchase.

    Some answers needed to help any potential "Cup" buyer make an educated decision;
    Any accidents?
    Any tub damage?
    Hours on current motor build?
    Hours on gearbox?
    Thank you
