Marking the last generation of Porsche’s naturally aspirated Boxster (981), this 2014 example comes finished in Black over matching upholstery. It features a 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung transmission, 18” Cayman wheels, seat ventilation, the Convenience Package, the Infotainment Package with Sound Package Plus, and more. This 981 was acquired by the seller in early 2023 as a Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle and was previously owned by a PCA member. It is now being offered for auction out of New Jersey with approximately 56k miles on the odometer.

This Boxster comes finished in Black with a black convertible soft top and rides on optional 18” Cayman wheels with colored Porsche center crests. Details include side air scoops, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and a central exhaust outlet. The seller notes minor paint imperfections are present and a layer of clear paint protection film covers the hood. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin sports Black partial leather upholstery including power-operated sport seats with ventilation. Additional options include automatically dimming mirrors with an integrated rain sensor, the Infotainment Package with Sound Package Plus, and the Convenience Package which offers a wind deflector, dual-zone climate control, and heated seats. An Alcantara steering wheel with paddle shifters has been fitted. The seller adds that the driver’s door insert was replaced under the manufacturer’s warranty at an authorized Porsche dealer. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be in working order.

A mid-mounted 2.7-liter flat-six engine delivers naturally aspirated power to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission. With an output of 265 HP and 207 lb.-ft of torque, the Boxster accelerates from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5.5 seconds. The seller states the front brake pads and rotors were replaced in June 2023, and an oil change was carried out in December 2023 including the replacement of the engine and cabin air filters. The CARFAX report shows a total of 18 service history entries.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and the original steering wheel.

The seller would like you to know: “This beautiful car wants for nothing and is only being sold as I am getting into a 718 GTS 4.0. Would love to keep it but space and my wife won't allow it.  Although I have owned it for a relatively short period, it is in excellent condition. It has been housed in an attached garage and is not driven in the rain or snow. Maintenance is up to date and there are no outstanding issues. I think the 981 Boxster base is one of the most underrated Porsches ever made. It might not have the highest horsepower in the stable but get it into its sweet zone and this car has more power and torque than you will ever need, and it handles like a total dream. The PDK is awesome allowing for every horse to be utilized to its max.”

This car is not still CPO. This car though is in excellent condition and while it was CPO I had it checked out by Monmouth Porsche who felt that there was nothing that it lacked.

Welcome to the final day of the auction for this beautiful car. I have owned many P cars and it has been a while since I have had one that is so solid and in such great shape.

For pickup and drive (and yes I can assure you I would have no reservations of driving her directly to CA if needed) the nearest airport is Newark (EWR) and is about 30 mins from me.

If you are working with a shipping company I will be make myself available to them to aid in pickup.

    Good luck to you all

  • JasonJ (registered bidder) 2 months, 1 weekago

Thanks much for your quick response...on a holiday!

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

    @JasonJ
They are Halogen projection with auto on/off and coming home feature (not sure what the coming home feature is though)
I might be wrong but I am not sure that PDLS was an option in 2014

  • JasonJ (registered bidder) 2 months, 1 weekago

    Good morning,

I couldn't tell if this car has halogen headlights, xenon headlights or the PDLS version.
    Can you identify which?

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

The quickest and easiest airport is Newark. I am about 35 minutes from Newark Airport (EWR). By Uber $50-70 and by train $15. Not promising and largely depending on when there is a possibility I could pick you up as well

Philadelphia (PHL), JFK (JFK) and La Guardia (LGA) are geographically close but can take two hours with traffic

  • julios1234 (registered bidder) 2 months, 1 weekago

Hello again seller. How far are you from the airport and which airport is the closest? I will need to flight from El Paso , Texas. Thanks.

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

    @ fish2556

I have all books and the leather holder
    There are two keys
I have the original window sticker as well. If I recall there are pictures of all of them towards then end of my million pictures

    Thanks for your bid

  • fish2556 (registered bidder) 2 months, 1 weekago

Do you have books, records and spare key? Copy of original window sticker by any chance?

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

@julios actually its not just about looks. It is an essential piece of equipment and helps increase the downward forces on the car so that at speed it does not "take off". It is actually very hard to see the spoilers in action in any Porsche and so if it stops working you will get an error message as it is so vital.

  • julios1234 (registered bidder) 2 months, 1 weekago

Thank you. Just curious. It does adds to the beautiful looks it already has.

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

@julios1234 Yes the spoiler is working perfectly both stationary and manually and automatically at speed (as verified by my wife as I left her in the distance ;)

To be clear - there is nothing in this car that is not functioning as it should

  • julios1234 (registered bidder) 2 months, 1 weekago

Forgot to asked. Is the spoiler on the back functional/working properly with both the button on the center console and automatically once it reaches certain speed? I can’t find any pictures or in the videos a deployed spoiler one. Thanks.

Thank you for such a quick and detailed response and appreciate the offer of the car play accessory, although and hopefully I get to use it on this car if my eventual bidding is successful. Thanks again.

    @julios1234

Thank you, yes she is a beauty

The front rotors and pads were the only ones replaced. The rears were felt to be fine. The brake light had not yet come on and it was at the suggestion of the mechanic that the fronts be replaced. I am fairly certain that the fronts had a good couple of 1000 miles left but hey gotta pay the Porsche tax.

As to the undercarriage I was blown away by how little rust this car had and as you can see from the pictures there is close to nothing. That said as with all mufflers and the bolts and bands that hold them their is some rust no matter how pristine that car is and that is due to the heating and cooling cycles of the engine and the humidity left on the mufflers. If you have a look at pictures 185-187 you will see the mufflers in the top left corner showing the very surface discoloration of the mufflers. There is nothing deeper than surface. Pictures 188-189 show the worst rusted areas which are purely a couple of nuts and bolts that are almost always rusted on the majority of cars. I wanted to show those as I wanted total transparency but the rust is minimal.

As to the car play accessory it is yours with pleasure and if you do not win the auction but the winner does not want it I will happily send it to you for when you do eventually get your 981. I will upload a picture of how I had it set up. That was a first setup, I then took it down and trimmed away the white tags and straightened it up. Not ideal but a cheap or in this case free option for someone wanting apple car play or android car play and not wanting to upgrade the PCM or start installing modules

Good luck with your bids and whether its my car or someone else's good luck on getting into a 981

Good morning seller quite well maintained and care for Boxster. Thank you for adding those seats pics. Did the back ( rotors/pads) were also replaced as well? As far as those undercarriages pic’s showing ‘rust’ I can only see the nuts/bolts with it? I can just replace them easily I think. Any other rust underneath in the exhaust? I can definitely use that car play accessory you have , if you are giving it away to the buyer. Thank you for your time.

  • JasonJ (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

    Thanks much.

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

    @JasonJ see below.

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

    @JasonJ.

These are the typical 2 way sports seats which means the back and forth movement of the back rest is powered but the back and forth of the entire seat and the up and down of the seats is manual.

    It does not have PASM

It does not have power steering plus. Most people feel PS+ is very gimmicky as it only changes the steering feel at ultra low parking garage speeds

There is a fully functioning blue tooth system for your phone. It also has FULL NAVIGATION.

This era of PCM did not offer car play. The only way to get car play in a 2016 Porsche of any kind I believe is to upgrade the entire radio. That said I bought myself a 7 inch car play screen and just used command strips to put it over the trim around the screen and plugged the input into the glovebox input plug. Worked great and had fully functional CarPlay. I am willing to give this to the new owner if they want it. It did not look out of place at all.

  • JasonJ (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

    A few questions...
    1. Are the seats fully power adjustable? The description mentions they are power ...but in the photos it looks like they are manually adjustable?
    2. Does this car have PASM or power steering plus?
    3. How does one integrate their phone into the system...is there a place to plug in the phone?
    4. Is it too early of a model to accept CarPlay?

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

With us being half way through the auction, I want to check in to make sure that nobody had any questions.

I really think that this is the right car at the right time. It has an immaculate service history, most recently has been fully evaluated with all deferred maintenance completed. This includes front brakes and replacing the driver side door card, which is a known weakness in the 981.

With Porsche coming out with an electric Boxster as its next generation, these flat sixes will be in great demand. The 981 generation is one of the first generations with a modern PDK, no engine issues and this one especially has been lovingly cared for.

Was really hoping that my wife would have taken over this car. Allow us to keep it in the family but she is petrified of “expensive” cars. Ironically, her Audi Q7 is a lot more expensive than this.

I even thought of offering it to my 18 year old daughter birth that would’ve been a little over the top. …..

    Thanks for the confirmation.

@JasonJ I took a good look at the seats again and see no evidence of repairs. I also took some close ups of the seats and uploaded them to the gallery together with the original sticker. Regards

@JasonJ Firstly thank you for your bid

I do believe that the seats are in very good condition and I will try and get some close ups for you later tonight.
As you probably know the leather options in Porsches can be ultra confusing. This is made worse by the fact that they use terms like embossed leather and smooth finish leather. Given that this is just a standard leather/partial leather with no leather options I am assuming that you are correct.

Bid in the amount of $15,000

  • JasonJ (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

    That's entirely possible.
In your opinion, do you believe that both seats are in very good condition?
Are they partial leather, with the inserts not being leather?

  • Porschelover30 (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@JasonJ Unfortunately I do not have any further information, prior owner did not know either. I have looked at both seats and can find no defects or tears or any evidence of a repair. If you would like I can post further up close pictures but to my eyes the seats are perfect and I wondered if the repair had been miscategorized and that it was a mechanism repair

  • JasonJ (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

    Good morning,
Could you speak to the 10/25/21 seat upholstery repair that was mentioned?

    Thanks much

Welcome to the auction of my Black on black 2014 Boxster base. I will be available all week to answer questions.

I am open to a PPI and I would suggest speaking with Ace at Body Motion if you would like me to take it for PPI and I am also available if any one local wants to come and take a look at it. Please bear in mind though that it is going to snow tonight in NJ and that mean lots of slush and salt around for the next few days.

I think the Boxster base 981 is probably one of the best Porsches out there. I have a 986 which is so analogue but it really shows its age and the drive can be jarring and uncomfortable. I also recently drove a 992 and that is one amazingly powerful machine but it is so powerful that within seconds you are at speeds that can be license losing. The Boxster base 981 is the perfect marriage of the two. It is new enough that it is a comfortable ride even as a daily and it is powerful enough that you will never feel wanting for speed or power but at the same time the power and handling is manageable and rewarding. Get it into the sweet spot of around 4K RPM and above and the torque, power and handling is instantaneous and those curves just scream to be taken. And the sound, oh the sound - magical and that with the stock exhaust. Whether you drive the PDK manual style or allow the PDK to do its work on its own it is amazing how intuitive it is.

This car has been well taken care of, has almost no corrosion or rust and has just come off of CPO and with excellent care this car has only had a quarter of its life behind it.
