The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro COPO is a factory-built, drag-race-ready version of the Camaro, specifically designed for NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes. Limited to just 69 units for 2017, it pays homage to the original 1969 COPO Camaros. This example, #53, is powered by a Holley fuel-injected 427ci V8 paired with an ATI Racing Products three-speed automatic transmission. It features a spooled 9" rear end, 15" Weld wheels, lightweight disc brakes, adjustable coilovers, four-link rear suspension, a drag parachute, and wheelie bars. Additional equipment includes a carbon-fiber cowl-induction hood, a safety cage, racing bucket seats, a Hurst shifter, AutoMeter instrumentation, and much more. Finished in blue with 427-specific graphics, this rare Camaro is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.

Every COPO Camaro was meticulously factory-modified for racing at the dedicated facility in Oxford, Michigan. This example comes finished in Hyper Blue with race-inspired livery and features a carbon-fiber cowl-induction hood, removed side mirrors, sprung wheelie bars, and a Simpson parachute with a COPO-branded safety pin tassel. It is also equipped with COPO-branded 15" Weld wheels, fitted with 28.0×4.5" front and 9.0/30.0" rear Hoosier drag tires. The seller adds that this example has not yet been raced, and detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cabin is outfitted with COPO-branded black cloth-upholstered bucket seats, Simpson cam-lock racing harnesses, a safety cage, and a factory rear seat delete as standard. The black leather-wrapped steering wheel is complemented by Chevrolet-branded AutoMeter instrumentation, with a shift light mounted on the safety cage next to the A-pillar. Additional features include a driver-side safety net, an in-dash accessory switch panel, and a Hurst Quarter Stick reverse-pattern shifter. Notably, each COPO edition was delivered without an odometer, emphasizing its dedicated racing purpose.

Beneath the hood lies a hand-assembled, naturally aspirated 427ci V8 engine featuring an LSX cast iron block with steel main caps and CNC-machined aluminum LSX-LS7 cylinder heads. It is equipped with a Chevrolet Performance/Holley Hi-Ram EFI intake manifold, a Whipple Industries billet aluminum throttle body, and stainless-steel American Racing headers. Additional engine components include a Callies Dragonslayer crankshaft and Compstar forged steel connecting rods, paired with Clevite tri-metal rod and main bearings. It includes a Chevrolet Performance hydraulic roller camshaft and valvetrain, along with Del West titanium intake valves and sodium-filled exhaust valves. Additionally, Mahle forged pistons and rings are utilized, along with a seven-quart fabricated aluminum oil pan, a Meziere billet electric water pump, and an ATI Performance Products Super Damper, ensuring exceptional performance and reliability.

Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through an ATI Racing Products TH400 three-speed automatic transmission featuring an SFI-approved “Super Case,” a reverse manual valve body, and an ATI Treemaster MRT-Series torque converter. The Strange Engineering 9" thru-bolt aluminum center section houses a 4.57:1 gear set and a lightweight steel spool connected to gun-drilled Strange axles. The suspension comprises Strange Engineering adjustable coilover struts up front, a four-link setup with a Panhard bar, and Strange double-adjustable coilovers in the rear. Steering is handled by a custom manual rack, while unassisted four-wheel disc brakes ensure reliable stopping power. Additionally, a racing fuel cell with an Aeromotive Eliminator fuel pump is mounted in the trunk along with dual batteries.

This example is offered with a bill of sale and a COPO purchase certificate reserving serial number #053 issued on March 2, 2017, detailing the car’s factory build specifications and dealer information. The manufacturer’s literature and various accessories, including a Simpson racing jacket, a branded duffel bag, and a Chevrolet Performance banner, are also included in the sale.

I really thought, when I saw that middle finger hit the start button, that we might see the right foot going a little farther down. I know it hasn't been raced, but has it ever been wound up and enjoyed at all?
