Up for auction is this 2021 Mini John Cooper Works Grand Prix finished in Racing Gray Metallic over a Carbon Black Dinamica/leather interior. Introduced in 2020, the Mini Cooper JCW GP is the ultra-high-performance version of the third-generation Mini Cooper, equipped with a tuned 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 301 HP, carbon-fiber bodywork, a Torsen front limited-slip differential, a rear seat delete, a stiffer suspension, and larger brakes. Production of the JCW GP was limited at 3,000 units worldwide, with approximately 500 examples making their way to the United States. This 2021 Grand Prix, #418/3000, is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of Georgia showing just over 3k miles on the odometer covered under the balance of the factory warranty.

This John Cooper Works Grand Prix is finished in Racing Gray Metallic (C45) and features a silver roof and mirror caps, Piano Black trim, a multi-level rear wing, carbon-fiber over-fenders, and an aggressive front fascia with large intake openings.  Other unique features include a revised rear valance with dual exhaust tips, a hood scoop, red brake calipers, and red accents on the doors and front bumper. This Mini rides on 18” JCW GP Spoke two-tone wheels fitted with Hankook Ventus S1 Evo Z tires. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in Carbon Black Dinamica and leather, featuring six-way manually adjustable heated JCW sport seats with Dinamica inserts, Chili Red contrast stitching, GP badges, and Chili Red seatbelts. The center-mounted 8.8" touchscreen display includes Real-Time Traffic Information, Apple Carplay compatibility, Mini Connected navigation, a rearview camera, and wireless charging. Driver’s amenities include a multifunction JCW leather steering wheel with 3D-printed shift paddles, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a GP-specific Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster.

The Grand Prix is powered by a specially tuned version of the BMW B48 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces up to 301 HP and 331 lb.-ft of torque. The front wheels are driven by an 8-speed Sport automatic transmission with an integrated Torsen limited-slip differential, allowing the GP to reach 60 MPH in as little as 4.7 seconds and continue to a claimed top speed of 164 MPH. The JCW GP also received a revised suspension system with stiffer springs, dampers, and added anti-roll bars. Stopping power comes from vented disc brakes at all four corners, measuring 14.2" at the front and 10.2" in the rear.

This sale will include a set of two keys, the original window sticker, and a clean title. The quickest Mini ever produced and one of the fastest front-wheel-drive cars on the market today, this rare Grand Prix is a perfect hot hatchback for any discerning driver.

If I can also chime in and help any bidders. I am fortunate to own four various 911's and also own a GP3. I bought a GP3 because it was the closest modern thing to one of my favorite cars, the Renault R5 turbo from the 1980's. Although this is not a mid engine car, like the Renault, it is an extremely powerful two seater hot hatch. So the car - I put 8,000 miles on mine in one year because I am constantly using it over my Porsche's because of the pure fun factor. The only thing I did to mine was add the John Cooper works exhaust that has a cool little Bluetooth key chain button to open the flaps. When open, it sounds awesome. There is really nothing else to mod on the car unless you want to install a roll cage in my opinion. It is crazy fast, yes the torque steer is intense and takes some getting used to, but it also reminds you of how much horsepower is under this little hood. As others noted, it is very unique. I live in Miami, the land of Lambos and Ferrari's everywhere and I constantly get stopped by "car guys" asking me about this little rocket. I think for the money these sell for the fun factor/price is the best value out there. GLWA.

@steventurbo spoiled it for all of us! Good luck, these are amazing machines. I have a GP1 and a GP2... People comparing them to Caymans don't know what they are missing.

@RonSusser For sure - a GP3 is a unique vehicle that I hope brings many smiles/mile - hopefully the action/bidding on this original owner/low mileage example picks up!

  • RonSusser (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@coloradoM - appreciate your participation and feedback.

  • Lpetross (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

    @ColoradoM awesome feedback! Thank you!

  • ColoradoM 2 years, 1 monthago

@Lpetross Valid question, here is what drove me to choose a GP3:
    - Price of entry was significantly lower - leaving room/$ for mods, spares, helmets, etc. and is still under warranty
    - Visual presence and uniqueness of the GP3 trumps a base 918 all day - in my opinion. I like owning vehicles that you don't see often and the limited production of the GP3 fits that desire.
    - I wanted to stay in the BMW "family"
    - A front engine, FWD, vehicle will teach my daughter car control dynamics that better align to her daily vs the mid-engine platform of a 918
I get that a 301 HP hot hatch, FWD, autotragic is a very narrow niche and isn't on the list for everyone but the uniqueness, visual presence, and overall fun factor the GP3 delivers won me over...for now ;)

@lpetross - my apologies - I thought that question was posed to me. Feel free to disregard my answer from the seller.

  • Lpetross (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

@RonSusser First - my question was posed to ColoradoM who mentioned that they had just purchased a GP3 to AX with his daughter. I was asking why they opted for the GP3 vs a base Cayman for that use case. Not a question for the owner. Second - The owner sharing that they own two GT3RSs doesn't provide any insight into why they bought or are selling the GP3. Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to learn about a vehicle I may bid on.

  • RonSusser (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@leptross - excuse my reply back, but I found the owner's answer to be very honest and clear. Not sure which part you felt was not helpful.

  • Lpetross (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

@RonSusser Thank you Ron. Not exactly the most helpful response from the owner but that's fine. GLTA

  • RonSusser (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@lpetross - according to the owner of the car: I love minis and I have two GT3RS's, so don’t need a cayman.

  • RonSusser (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@coloradoM - thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review of the Mini GP. Hopefully, your comment will inspire some bidding. Come on people!!

  • Lpetross (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

@ColoradoM Nice review of the car. Definitely a unique vehicle. If I can ask a naive question, why did you opt for GP3 versus, lets say, a couple year old 718 Cayman base? Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of the GP3 but I just can't figure out what niche in the market it fills.

Hello P-Car community - long time “watcher”, 1st time commenter… @RonSusser; Great pictures of this GP3 - pics 5&8 really depict the true color of Racing Gray in direct sunlight, nicely captured & best of luck in your sale process! As a recent inductee into GP3 ownership (purchased #2582 on Fri), thought I would share my first impressions to help those interested/deciding to join the GP3 family…
The GP3 checked all the boxes on my list for a unique (something you don’t see on the road everyday) weekend Canyon carver and Auto-X car for me and my 16 yr old daughter plus was in the BMW “family” as the Blau mit Weiss runs deep in this household…1st impressions:
Visual Presence: Striking in-person, punches WAY above it weight class in visual appeal and attention with all the details working great together!
Driving Dynamics: everything you have read/watched about these is true, it is un-compromising w/ a focus of road handling/grip! Don’t kid yourself, yes, it is firm - not unlivable in my view (given its purpose in my stable) BUT the MSS spring swap is going to be 1st on my list of mods. Torque steer: yes it’s there and you have to be present/engaged while driving a GP3 but I wasn’t turned off by it - definitely qualifies as “engaging” and keeps you alert! Brakes are INCREDIBLE! Acceleration is eye opening - the pull from 2nd gear on is extremely impressive given the package it is in. Build quality is good, mine had ~5k miles and still like new with no squeaks, rattles, etc.
Overall, this is not for everyone, it is not perfect, BUT if it fits w/ your objectives to be used as designed, you’ll be happy and be one of ~500 lucky owners in the US. Here’s to the winning bidder joining “the few”!
