  • Lot #: M-0040403-DT

Available for auction is a double-sided illuminated Porsche Mizwa advertising sign. The sign measures approximately 51” inches in length, and 12” inches in height with a depth of 4” inches. The sign features a double-sided design with the Porsche logotype in red as well as the ‘Mizwa’ name – which was the sole importer of Porsche cars into Japan until the mid-1990s.

The sign consists of two translucent faces that are enclosed in an aluminum frame. The sign features two hooks at the top as it was intended to be hung from the ceiling.  The lighting has been upgraded with professional-grade LED lighting and it is currently wired to a UK plug.  The seller states the sign will be supplied with a USA or European adapter. The seller states the sign is in excellent overall condition with some light scratches in the aluminum frame and a few small marks on the face. The buyer is responsible for shipping, shipping insurance, handling, and transactional fees.

The seller would like you to know: This sign was produced in the 1990's through Rudolf in Germany.  Rudolf was an authorized producer of signage and event displays for Porsche, and in particular for Porsche Motorsport. The previous owner of this piece was a private collector and profound enthusiast of Porsche Motorsport and also a participant in the Cup series during the late 80's and 90's.

    @fitzpatrick ‘continued’

The final balance due for this particular item would simply be as follows:

    Item price + shipping (FedEx)

For example, if this particular item were to sell for $3,000 then the estimated cost breakdown would be as follows:

    Item - $3,000
    PCarmarket fee (10%) - $300
Bank/Wire fee (if any) - $0 (hopefully zero)
    Shipping (FedEx) - $450 (estimated)

This would make a total expenditure of $3,750 (estimated). The only additional cost and one that seems to vary is the customs duty when an item arrives. Some states in the USA have very lenient terms and it can be relatively small (some times it is even zero). The customs duty all depends on the value that is declared at the point of shipping when the courier is booked and I always ask the buyer first before making the booking.

To sum up everything as a whole, I am here to help make the process as simple as possible for the buyer. You would not have to organise a courier or anything of the sort as that would be my responsibility and I would undertake the packaging of the item as well and fill out the paperwork for customs etc at my end. A buyer really does not need to do anything when purchasing an item from me.

I do hope this has helped and I apologise if my reply was a little long winded.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if anything needs further clarification.

    Kind regards

@fitzpatrick Good morning, thank you for getting in touch and for your kind comments.

The entire process from bidding on an item on the PCarmarket website to having it delivered is relatively straightforward and I will do my very best to explain the process below.

When someone wins an auction on PCarmarket, the only additional expenses on top of the item itself (in general) are usually as follows:

    - PCarmarket auction fee (set at 10%)
    - Bank transaction/wire fee (if any)
    - Shipping materials/custom made crate
    - Courier cost (FedEx, UPS etc)

The PCarmarket auction fee is standard on all items and with regards to parts and memorabilia the rate that is charged is 10% of the final price/winning bid (if the reserve is met come the end of the auction). The fee is paid automatically to PCarmarket through the registered card held on file and shortly after the auction ends both the buyer and seller receive an email with each others contact details to allow both parties to conclude the sale.

If the reserve of the auction is not met when the item ends at auction, the item in question then enters the PCarmarket ‘Deal Tank’ which allows potential buyers to either purchase the item immediately for the advertised price (the price would be the original reserve price that was set) or you can also submit an offer of your choosing and negotiate a price with the seller.

Once a sale is agreed or if the reserve has been met during the auction, the next steps are a simple case of having to pay the seller for the item and getting the item delivered to the buyer.

At the present time, the payment options available for myself include both bank/wire transfers and PayPal payments. Some banks wish to charge customers a fee for sending wire transfers (some don’t thankfully) and this is what is commonly referred to as ‘transactional charges’. This is a fee that normally applies to the sender of the funds/wire.

With regards to shipping, I almost always never charge for the packaging or for the time involved to pack an item safely. Some sellers do charge and it may only become known after the auction has ended, however I like to be as transparent as possible and I am happy to confirm that no additional charges other than the cost of the courier would be requested.

This particular sign already has a shipping crate that will be supplied and used to transport it once it is sold. Shipping crates normally cost money to produce and have a material cost, however this particular sign already has one so there would be no charge for having one made.

The final aspect is the shipping of the item itself. This is the only additional expense a buyer needs to take into account when purchasing an item. I normally use UPS but I have discovered that FedEx has been very competitive with their prices, especially for larger items. The shipping cost is determined on the final size of the package and in this instance the estimated cost is looking to be $450.

Thank you for the careful presentation of this item. Do you mind giving more detail on the shipping process and cost? You mention it will come in "its own shipping crate", as well as this text:

"The buyer is responsible for shipping, shipping insurance, handling, and transactional fees."

It would be great to understand the probable all-in costs to a US buyer (let's assume delivery to Los Angeles), as well as your recommended shipping partner, and any additional steps (such as procuring a shipping crate). Speaking for myself, I wouldn't know where to start asking around for shipping services from the UK, so I'd need assurance that the seller has the process determined in advance (and I'll pay the bill, of course).

    Thank you.
