Available for auction is an Alternator/Fan housing for a 1981 Porsche 911 SC.  This assembly is said to have been completely refurbished by having aluminum components media tumbled for an original finish with all steel pieces re-plated in yellow zinc.  It has been re-assembled with the original alternator that was in great working order.  This assembly is a direct fit for 1980 - 1983 911 SC models and an upgrade for earlier 911 series cars (1969-1977).

@gregjohn007 Yes, the auction has ended without reaching the reserve and the item has now been moved over the the Deal Tank section. This is now an opportunity to “buy it now” or to submit a reasonable offer that may be accepted.

I’m confused. This product was up for auction now closed, and the seller is commenting after the close of auction, does that mean the item is back on the auction table

@JD458 No, I never had it bench tested and what I’m really offering here are the Fan, Housing and pulley that have been restored. The alternator was removed in working condition and is being used as a fixture to display these parts (but is included).

Has the alternator been bench tested and can you upload a copy of the results. Thank you.

@cobalt You are correct. The parts are tumbled and are left with a coating from the process which protects the parts temporarily. I prefer to leave the parts uncoated so that you can see the condition of the parts clearly and the end user can then decide what color/sheen to paint them in.
    This is a 245mm fan

It is Magnesium which needs to be protected from the elements otherwise it will corrode severely just from humidity in the air over time or quickly if exposed to moisture or salts.

What is the dia of this fan.

  • Wassergekuhlt (seller) 4 years, 4 monthsago

@mn911moby you’re absolutely right. That’s also why the blade and housing weren’t painted or powder coated after being tumbled. Magnesium needs to breathe. I should’ve described it as alloy.

You realize that’s not aluminum but magnesium, right?
