Available for auction is a factory-produced hardtop for a G-body 911. In the 1980s, this rare hardtop was offered but did not sell well due to its $8,500 price tag.
This top features a roller latch that will fit 911 cabriolets built between 1985 and 1989. However, it is believed to also fit 964 cabriolets. With the exception of a minor ripple, the headliner fabric is in great condition. All factory glass and wiring are retained, including the defrosted rear glass. 
A unique feature of the hardtop is its single cabin dome light, unlike the coupe's two smaller ones. Like-new rubber seals are present on all sides. According to the seller, this example displays only very minor knicks on the edges. It is in excellent condition overall. For a more accurate representation, please view the gallery.

I was just reading my description and although it says it fits 83 to 87 that is incorrect as it fits 85 to 89. As discussed in the comments your car must use the roller latch mechanism to fit correctly. Sorry about this. Dont know how that slipped by my eyes. Thanks Rob.
@Matossan i believe it weighs approx 80 lbs. awkward with one but two can handle it easily.
As far as fitting an 83 SC physically it will but on the 83 and 84 those cars employ a j hook latching mechanism for the cab and targa tops. This top uses a roller latch which is different. If your car uses the roller latch from the factory then it will latch correctly. It is made for the 85 to 89 cars. There is an article on Pelican under the 911 technical section , yesterday talking about the aftermarket DMorris hardtop which is similar, and talks about latch conversion on that top. Converting this you would have to do your research. Thanks Rob.

To confirm for some- the installation of this top does indeed require the full removal of the folding top assembly. This top is also a bolt in for the 964 and 993 convertible cars. I have handled one of these in the past and we test fitted it on several cars before it was finally painted and installed.

@Mgro1959 My friend just relayed this info to me regarding the top. Porsche offered this colour in 1988 on all its offerings. Color code is 947 9 3 PERLGLANZWEISS but on some cars they called it PERLGLAZEFFEKT. with the same color code. The top was to fit the 85 to 89 G because of the roller latch set up. I am not sure if the earlier j hook latches could be fitted but there were hardtops produced by Porsche to fit the earlier cars. The part number for earlier hardtops ended in -00 wheras later they changed to -02. This may denote the J latch and the later roller latch difference. Thanks.
@Skindoc Thanks for the info. From what I read yes it requires the removal of the softop. On fitting the 964 you might be right. I had a friend locally that was thinking of putting it on his 964 cab but we never got around to trying it. He thought it may have worked but that may be something to be researched. Not sure if the 964 uses roller latches. Thanks
@esmeralda Thanks for the question. Was just talking to a gentleman who told me this colour was factory and offered from 85 to 89. Its sort of a pearl white. Looks slightly light gold in certain light. I have asked him as to what the colour is

@Porschehoff goodmorning and thanks for your interest. Off hand I will guess at 600 dollars but I will check with shippers. Over the years I have had some pretty big stuff from other british hardtops to a sidecar etc and a truck bed. Range for that was around 400 dollars. This would be crated and encased in plywood so to be well protected. The approximate weight of the hardtop is 80 lbs and takes two to move around. Crated I took a rough measurement allowing for 2x4 frame sheeted in 1/2 plywood. It would measure 56 inches wide x 18 inches high and 62 inches long. This may be a couple of inches large. I would think it would weigh around 225 lbs or less. I will check today to get a rough cost. Thanks
@woodsy good morning and thanks for your comment. I personally know of two that exist other then my and apparently there were two made with sun roofs which would be cool. I have seen pictures of some but it would be interesting to know how many were built. This top is an unusual color and appears to be done properly as in once but if so it would have been a special order. I don’t know this for sure but finding the original car would be interesting Thanks.

I've only ever seen one of these in person. It was on a black flachbau, and I really couldn't even tell was a convertible until the owner pointed it out!!
I want to start by thanking all those who view this auction. I will do my best to answer questions but because of the rarity of this there is not alot of information available other then what I have been able to find online. Thankyou
