We are pleased to offer this original painting of Vic Elford’s Porsche 917 Longtail Coupe at Le Mans by Michael Ledwitz.  Among the greatest drivers in motorsport history, Vic Elford enjoyed a highly successful racing career throughout the 1960s and 70s during which time he won and set lap records at the Targa Florio, 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Daytona, and 1000km Nürburgring.  Partnered with Porsche for 5 years, Elford was also the only driver to have raced every version of the legendary 917.

Measuring 36”x48”, this original work of art was created using acrylic paint with brushstroke and pastels held in place with a matte lacquer spray.  Silver leaf is used to highlight the sunglasses of some of the people in the photo while many layers of pastel and paint were used to create a deep, rich texture.  The image is an interpretation of a photograph taken at the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, depicting Vic Elford stepping out of his #21 Martini-Porsche 917LH in the pits after the race.  The car is surrounded by crewmembers and onlookers, while silhouettes of racing fans can be seen in the grandstands above.

Michael Ledwitz is known for his abstract style similar to Peter Max and LeRoy Neiman. His love for the arts started with drawing cars at a very young age and was inspired by Hot Wheels. Michael's art is coveted in the automotive industry and has led to many high-level pieces including the artwork done for Carrol Shelby's 85th birthday celebration. Michael's professional career in automotive art started after he was in a near-fatal car accident in 2005. He was forced to slow down from work in franchising in order to heal. His painting began as a hobby; a way to relax and reflect. Soon after, people started to notice Michael’s talent and began requesting commissioned pieces of their own. Since then, Michael’s accomplishments include silent auction pieces for Zoo Atlanta, commissioned paintings for Carroll Shelby’s 85th birthday in Las Vegas, Shelby Licensee, and was the featured artist for the 2018 Atlanta Concours d'Elegance at Chateau Elan.
