Built as a race car by Emory Motorsports in the mid-2000s, this 1962 Porsche 356B Coupe returned to Emory in 2012, where it was converted for street use and fitted with Outlaw-style modifications. It features a custom 1,720cc flat-four with an Elgin camshaft, dual Solex carburetors with velocity stacks, a 4-speed manual transmission with modified gears, a limited-slip differential, a custom center-exit exhaust, four-wheel disc brakes, adjustable Spax shocks, polycarbonate rear and side windows, a center hood fuel filler, Fibersteel GT-Speedster-style seats, a roll bar, and 15” aluminum wheels. Following the current owner’s purchase in 2018, the car underwent a $150k refurbishment by European Collectables, which included new interior upholstery, a full repaint, and a top-end engine rebuild. This modified 356B Outlaw is now being offered for auction out of California, accompanied by Emory build records.

The Reutter-built bodywork was refurbished by Emory Motorsports in the mid-2000s with repairs to the rockers, longitudinals, floor pans, and door bottoms. Modifications by Emory Motorsports included custom front brake ducts, a front oil cooler grille, polycarbonate rear and side windows, and a center hood fuel filler. Previously finished in yellow, the car was completely disassembled and repainted in blue under current ownership. It rides on 15” aluminum wheels dressed in 205/50 BF Goodrich Advantage T/A tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been redone with blue leatherette and tan corduroy upholstery on the Fibersteel GT-Speedster-style seats, matching blue leatherette door panels, and tan square weave carpeting. Accessories include a body-colored roll bar, leather door pull straps, a black leather four-spoke steering wheel, black rubber floor mats, and an Emory Outlaw logo gear knob. The analog VDO instrumentation consists of an oil pressure/temperature gauge, a central tachometer, a battery voltmeter, an hour meter, and a fuel level gauge. A gauge showing engine hours currently logs 365 hours.

Built in 2012, the 1,720cc flat-four engine features 10.5:1 compression 86mm Shasta pistons, an Elgin camshaft, a front-mount aluminum oil cooler, a custom fuel tank, a custom center-exit exhaust system, and dual Solex carburetors with velocity stacks. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle with aluminum mounts, custom gearing, and a limited-slip differential. Stopping power comes from four-wheel disc brakes. The suspension has been modified with adjustable Spax shocks, a 19mm front sway bar, a 356 Enterprises camber compensator, and Wright de-cambered front spindles. The seller notes that a top-end engine rebuild was performed during their ownership.

This sale will include Emory Motorsports build records and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car for over 7 years. It was built by Rod Emory for his client as a race car and then returned to Emory a few years later and further modified for street use. I decided to refurbish the car at European Collectables. The entire car was disassembled and totally redone. It is as new today and a thrilling car to drive.”

There are photos of the receipts from European collectibles already uploaded. They will be handed over to the new owner after the auction with all of the other documentation from Emory detailing the build.

Can you post pictures of the receipts when you paid EC to do the work?

  • gblue (seller) 7 hours, 53 minutesago

let me be clear. I am the only owner of the car for the last seven years. I sent it to European collectibles to have it refurbished. Nick Clemence is not the owner and has never been the owner of this car and I do not work for him. I asked him to sell it for me and he listed it on Bring A Trailer under his company. Maybe that’s where the confusion is. I live in Hawaii and have known NICK for over 25 years and the work they do in my opinion is one of the best in the business. That’s why I chose European collectibles to do the work. If you look closely at all of the photos, the more you enlarge them the better they look, which is a testament to their skills and restoring the 356.

Gregg, I'm confused about the ownership history. You've said you've owned this car for 7 years but Nick Clemence (the owner of European Collectibles) owns this car. Do you work for Nick; what is your last name?

There is also an external oil cooler that runs from the engine to the front of the car just behind the oil filter grill. This helps cool the oil down if you’re driving the car really hard or if it’s a really hot day.

If you look at photo number 135 you will see the adjustable knob at the bottom of the shock. Just turn it clockwise to stiffen the suspension and counterclockwise to soften it up. I have these shocks on all my cars and they are incredible.

  • gblue (seller) 1 day, 7 hoursago

I have Spax adjustable shocks on the car and I have them set on number 15. There is a small dial at the bottom of each shock absorber and the maximum is number 18. I like my car very stiff because I drive a lot of sharp twisty roads. All you have to do is turn the knob back down to a lower number and the car would soften up considerably. These are the greatest shocks, made in the UK, because you don’t have to remove them to change the tension. They are adjustable in a few seconds by turning the dial. Let me know if you have any other questions, Gregg

The rims that are now on the car now are the ones that were on when I bought it. The fuchs are from a 70’s
