Now up for auction at no reserve is this 1994 Porsche 968 Coupe finished in Aventurine Green Metallic over a Classic Grey interior.  One of 718 Coupes sold in North America for the 1994 model year, this 968 is one of only 17 examples to have been finished in this color combination for the entire North American production run.  It comes factory equipped with a 6-speed manual transaxle, limited-slip differential, and a sunroof. It has also been upgraded with Sport Suspension (M030) sway bars, Koni shocks, an upgraded solid-state DME relay, a custom sound system, electric Sport Seats, a MOMO steering wheel, and 18” Speedline wheels. Benefitting from a recent major service carried out by TRE Performance including a timing belt replacement, this 968 shows approximately 42k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its owner out of California.

This 968 comes finished in Aventurine Green Metallic, a desirable shade offered during the mid-1990s which was recently reinstated as an option for the latest 992 generation. Some cosmetic imperfections are noted throughout the exterior including a few scratches, stress marks on the hood, and two cracks in the rear bumper.  The front and rear bumpers are missing their rubber body seals and the passenger-side headlight does not always pop up.  The entire car was refinished under previous ownership and CARFAX shows a salvage title to have been issued in 2000 following damage to the front end in November of 1999.  Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a full CARFAX report.  The car rides on a set of Speedline three-piece wheels measuring 18”x8” in front and 18”x10” in the rear.  These wheels are fastened with titanium lugs and come dressed 225/245 Pilot Sport 4S tires. The seller notes that the "Speedline for Porsche" etching remains visible on the front wheels, while the rear wheels have been refinished and no longer bear the markings.

Inside, the Classic Grey partial leather interior has been fitted with a set of electrically operated Sport Seats as well as a MOMO Prototipo three-spoke steering wheel, custom dark grey Coco floor mats, and a full custom sound system with a Kenwood BT-34 head unit, dual Mosconi amplifiers, Focal speakers, and a custom enclosure in the spare tire compartment housing a Focal 10” subwoofer.  The seats were restored by the specialists at Classic 9 and the seller notes the aftermarket steering wheel retains the functionality of the horn button and turn signal cancel.  Some discoloration is depicted on the driver side upper door panel and the interior rear hatch release is nonfunctional, although it can still be opened using the remote key fob.

This 968 is equipped with a 3.0L inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine with 4-valves-per-cylinder and VarioCam variable valve timing.  As much as 236 HP and 225 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle and factory optioned limited-slip differential.  Koni shock absorbers have been equipped along with an upgraded Focus 9 solid-state DME relay and upgraded sway bars from the Porsche Sport Suspension (M030) package.  A major service completed by TRE Performance in August of 2021 includes new timing belts and tensioners, a new power steering feed hoe, resealed power steering pump, and an overhaul of the ignition system with a new distributor cap, rotor, wires, and spark plugs.  The seller adds that the car passed a California smog test in May of 2020.

This sale will include a California salvage title. Showcasing a rare color combination and tasteful high-end upgrades, this 6-speed 968 Coupe offers a fantastic value for any enthusiast in search of a vintage transaxle Porsche.

Garm I'm sorry I didn't get it but I already have a '96 Cab and a 95 Coupe. I thought the seats, wheels, and sound system made it go for what it did. I hope you're happy with the price. Both my 968 auction prices were disappointments to the sellers.

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@BRO congratulations, it's a really comfortable sports car and amazing for its time. Hope you drive it home. :-) Also, thanks to PCarMarket for the listing and service.

BRO if you want to sell the wheels let me know

  • Skindoc (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Nice entry into a transaxle. Has the good parts - sport seats, LSD, suspension upgrades, and maintenance history. I think this would be a great DE car. Congratulations ??

@939 I don't have pics of the original seats; I sold them, but they were in very clean condition. Check the pics of the dash, which has no cracks. The car was garaged for most of its life, I'm pretty sure. SRS warning light can be disabled with a diode, and a tricky 944 part swap makes the turn signals cancel with the aftermarket wheel. I can't imagine why someone would want the heavy, thick original wheel back on there, but it is included.

  • 939 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Garm - would you have a picture of the original seats? Interested in their condition, that should be expected with such low mileage. Wondering if they match the "likely sun" damaged top of the driver door wear and the sun damage (shrinkage and warpage) of the rear part of the headliner (common for Florida cars).
Also, how did you disable the dash warning light after removing the SRS steering wheel?

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@939 -- The car did not come with the sport seats, as you've noted. I really wanted them, so I sourced a pair from Australia, then had them restored to match the car. If the timing parts you mention aren't on the receipt they probably weren't replaced, but a call to TRE Motorsports would answer it.

  • 939 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Based on the option codes (hard to read them all), it looks as though the car originally came with regular (non-sport) seats? Can you confirm?
Do you know why the front seats were redone - with such low mileage?
Do you know if the camshaft chain and the plastic sliders were replaced when the timing belt was done (it is not apparent from the invoice)?
    Thank you.

I added a driving video. You might see the oil pressure gauge wasn't working but it seems to be fine as of yesterday. Just being transparent as I can be. A fellow enthusiast drove the car yesterday and allowed me to use his lift for underside pictures. Thank you!

@automotiveartist I just added more pics of the seats

  • automotiveartist (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

It is photo 32/66. On the bottom drivers seat . You can see the pores of the seat on the side then the main of the cushion is blended over. Maybe it is the auto focus or the camera smoothed it over. The looks nice

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

I've now added underside pics. There is a minor oil leak. No apparent rust. You can see the M030 sway bars and Koni shocks. There is no evidence of any damage to the frame.

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Hey all, the weather is better and Christmas is behind us. I uploaded pics of the trunk and the dash. Note that the rear edge of the headliner needs repair. Next is a video or two and underside pics (excellent condition). Thanks for your patience!

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@automotiveartist @automotiveartist. I don't photoshop anything. What are you talking about?

  • automotiveartist (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@TransaxleJoe for the audio system, low frequencies travel at a different speed than high ones. Especially in a vehicle, aligning them so they reach your ears at the same time makes the audio sound better.

  • TransaxleJoe (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Garm please excuse my ignorance…time alignment? What is that?

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@TransaxleJoe the red button is time alignment on/off. There is also a handy knob there to control the sub woofer

  • TransaxleJoe (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Hello, amazing color!! Quick question, what does the red button on the center console activate?
    Thank you, GLWS

The sunroof was made by Saratoga - they are pretty rare in nice condition. Another company has just recently been reproducing them.

Also - a set of 8x18/10x18 Speedline wheels sold on BaT a few weeks ago for $15k...

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@dwells1960 I removed the chin spoiler as it scraped and was very annoying. It's not included.
The glass top is an "original" accessory, I believe it was a rare third party item that fits in the original way as the original top and was available when the cars were made.
The bumperettes have bee restored and painted to match.
I'll post more pics as requested, including copies of the larger invoices. It's raining yesterday and today which never happens but I'll post as soon as the sun comes out.

  • dwells1960 2 years, 4 monthsago

It appears the photos on the street were taken at different times, with the car in different physical condition. One photo shows a front chin spoiler. Others show it missing.
In some photos, the rear bumperettes appear painted and some photos show the unpainted original. Please explain.

Need frontal close-up photo of right front side (passenger) where 1999 impact occurred.

Has the original sunroof been replaced with a glass top? Does it come with original sunroof? Please explain.

Please provide interior photos of the rear hatch area.
Does it come with original spare tire, tool kit and inflator?

Do you have a photo of the top of the dash? Ant cracks?

Please provide invoice photos of any recent work done.

@mark79pc - - 75, 80, 90+ mph the car drives beautifully and straight. The $4000 time aligned audio system is superb. Receipts included.

How does the car drive at high speed, like 75 mph? Any rattle, noise etc..
    Radio works?

@petersgalloway -- I'm posting walk around, cold start and driving videos tonight. The sunroof works -- most of the time, like almost all these 968's. I have used it and removed it before, so I'll say "worked the last time I tried it".

  • petersgalloway (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Garm Thanks! It looks like in Georgia it has to be inspected too. Ok, great on steering wheel. Last two questions :). How does the sunroof work fully operational and removes completely? Also, anyway to see a driving video? Thanks again!!

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@petersgalloway -- I purchased the car from Florida, and the salvage title just followed the car to my ownership in California. I did have to smog the car (it passed fine) but title and registration were as usual. Pretty sure it works that way anywhere.

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@petersgalloway -- The factory grey steering wheel is included. It weighs a ton and I wouldn't trust a 27 year old airbag, but it does come with the car.

  • petersgalloway (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Do you still have the factory steering wheel? Also, with a salvage title how does that work with registering in a new state? Thanks!

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Hdog10 -- yes, many times. Happy to further clarify any specific question you might have.

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Mspohn -- I will see if I have the print out of the latest alignment. As mentioned in other replies, TRE Motorsports has done all the work on the car and it has been aligned twice in my possession with no issues.

  • Garm (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@JBoxerGT2 -- sorry to disappoint, but there are no pictures of the damage or repairs that caused the salvage title. The car has been aligned, and all work performed by TRE Motorsports in Van Nuys, CA. They'd be happy to confirm the car's mechanical condition and drivability.

Hi I'm the Seller, I'll be checking in to the auction regularly. The description should say that the 43,000 miles are original - a low mileage example that drives great.
