Now available for auction at no reserve is this 2002 BMW E46 M3 Convertible finished in Imola Red over a black Nappa leather interior.  Representing the third generation of BMW’s high-performance 3-Series variant, the E46 M3 is revered for its well-balanced chassis and high-revving S54 inline 6-cylinder engine. Sold new in 2002 at West County BMW of Missouri, this M3 reportedly sat for over 8 years under the second owner's care before being acquired by the current owner earlier in 2021. This M3 has been meticulously maintained by the seller, including a B Service which consisted of valve adjustment and new valve cover gaskets, new rod bearings under BMW warranty, a differential service, an air-conditioning service, a subframe inspection, and much more. Now showing just under 58k miles, this M3 Convertible is being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This E46 M3 is finished in Imola Red (405) with a power-operated black soft top, which has recently been serviced and is said to work flawlessly. The M3 sports a few major differences compared with a standard 3-Series Coupe, most notably its wider fenders, side air vents, revised front bumper, mirrors, rear valence, and signature M-Power quad-tip exhaust.  Another distinctive feature are the 18” BMW Style 67 double-spoke wheels which are manufactured by Ronal and currently dressed in Cooper Zeon RS3-S tires. The CARFAX report shows damage to have occurred to the rear end in 2002, and the seller notes a small patch of rust above the exhaust as well as some scratches on the trunk lid, minor road going wear on the front bumper, some overspray on the hood, and fading of the M3 badge on the trunk. Under their ownership, the seller has replaced the headlight gaskets and lenses, windshield cowl, and upper headlight cover strips. The C-pillar bat wings are also noted to be in excellent original condition.

The interior is upholstered in black Nappa leather and features deeply bolstered 14-way power-adjustable and heated M-Sport seats with matching door panels and carpeting. Shadow Brushed Aluminum trim accents the dashboard, center console, and door panels. M3-specific details include a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with M stitching, specialized M instrumentation with warm-up lights, M3 door sill guards, and M3-branded floor mats. Driver amenities include a Harman Kardon Hi-Fi audio system, Parking Distance Control, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The seller has recently replaced the rear ashtray with a new OEM piece and installed new BMW E46 M3 convertible floor mats. The seller also notes the driver’s door seal has a tendency to leak in rainy conditions.

The E46 M3 is powered by the venerable 3.2L S54 inline-six, which generates up to 333 HP and 269 lb.-ft of torque. The S54 utilizes motorsport-derived technology including individual throttle bodies, quasi-dry sump lubrication, a light alloy twin-cam head, and Double VANOS variable valve timing. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 6-speed SMG II automated manual transmission and a speed-sensing M Variable multi-clutch differential. This second-generation SMG gearbox used an electro-hydraulically actuated clutch and offered gear shifting via either the gear lever or the paddles mounted on the steering wheel. The M3 was offered with a variety of parts from BMW Motorsport including stiffer springs and dampers, thicker anti-roll bars, heavy-duty shock mounting points, and steel ball joints instead of rubber. The seller reports this M3 to have been well maintained including regular oil changes with Liqui Moly 10W-60 oil, a valve adjustment and valve cover gaskets done under Service B at 50k miles, new rod bearings replaced under recall in 2005, a rear differential service including a new piston driveshaft seal, new CV seals, Condor differential mounts, an SMG transmission service, a coolant flush, an A/C service, a new alternator, and a new battery. The subframe was recently inspected in 2021 and no cracks were identified. The seller recommends the front brake rotors for replacement.

This sale will include a clean title. A generation favored by many as the greatest 3-Series of all, this thoroughly serviced and sparingly driven E46 M3 Convertible presents an incredible value.
