Available for auction is a Mercedes-Benz 500 SL two-seater mini car was built by Alpha Technology in Krakow, Poland as a scaled-down version of the R230 Generation Mercedes and was sold through FAO Schwarz toy stores. The seller states this example has been stored in the original crate in a warehouse until recently when the top of the crate was lifted off to reveal this amazing, unused, preserved, original condition 500 SL Junior.
The 500 SL Mini is a rare find especially being unused and having been stored in the delivery crate for decades. The details of this mini car are intricately and accurately scaled down to represent the R230 Mercedes body. Unique features of this mini car include a full lighting system and manual transmission with clutch pedal for shifting. The idea was to teach children how to drive a stick shift.
The body is finished in all original silver lacquer paint. The cockpit tub is painted silver and is in excellent condition. The windscreen is in perfect condition with no scratches or cracks and still has the factory peel-able protective cover. The composite body is in excellent condition as expected with a new old stock unit. The rear boot lid is hinged and opens for access to the fuel tank and recoil starter. The front/rear light lenses are in perfect condition and the headlights, taillights, turn signals and brake lights are all functional. The seller states the body retains some factory imperfections such as a paint run on the rear bumper.
The interior features adjustable leatherette seats, a plastic and rubber steering wheel with electric horn, rubber shift boot, e-brake boot and handle, rubber pedal covers, and original rubber floor mat in original and perfect condition.
The tub and body attach to a steel box frame chassis with rear-mounted 4-stroke Honda engine. The seller states the car rides on its original unused DURO tires.

@redgard - This one has never been started. I have instruction from the manufacturer on how to start it after long term storage and will include a printout with the sale. These Honda engines are very reliable. While I understand some potential buyers would like to see the engine running, others (mostly collectors) seem to prefer to keep them in new/never started condition. Also, once fuel has been put in the tank, some shippers have rules and restrictions to consider.

@CaliforniaG - Dimension of the closed crate are 89"x47"x30". Crated weight is probably close to 400lbs, but safe to conservatively estimate 450lbs. I've used private shippers contracted through UShip and Freight trucks contracted through Freightquote dot com to move these around the country. Pickup location is a business with loading dock if that helps with shipping quotes.

@shovey28 - It definitely has more room than a Power Wheels vehicle with the seats moved back. I would say kids between 3.5ft and 5.5ft fit the Mercedes perfectly. The seats move forward and back along rails to optimize the fit. I've seen adults over 6ft tall driving similar Mercedes and other Junior cars of the same proportion, although with legs bent and in some cases touching the dash. I've also seen adults remove the drivers seat (slides right out when holding the release) and sit seat-less in the tub to get a bit more space for driving.
Any idea what size kid would fit in this? Is it the size of a modern two seat power wheels or bigger?

@ljcorvette - Top speed is 20-25 mph. There is a mechanical governor/easily accessible lever on the engine that can be used to adjust the top speed.
