Up for auction at no-reserve is this authentic full-size BMW i8 display model. Manufactured by BMW and sold as a promotional tool to dealerships around the world, this 1:1 scale replica was used to showcase BMW’s plug-in hybrid sports car before its launch in 2014. Nearly identical in appearance to the full production version, this authentic i8 display model is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
The fiberglass body is finished in Ionic Silver Metallic with Frozen Blue accents and features functional lighting operated by a control module hidden beneath the passenger side rocker panel. The genuine 20” BMW Style 470 W-spoke alloy wheels come dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires and sit ahead of cross-drilled brake rotors and silver BMW-logo calipers. There is no interior, drivetrain, or functional doors, and the car rolls on casters for easy maneuvering and placement.
From its numerous concept designs and prototypes, international debuts, and starring role in the film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the i8 represents one of BMW’s most comprehensive marketing campaigns as well as their introduction to the hybrid/electric market.
