The first-generation Opel GT debuted in 1965 at the Paris and Frankfurt motor shows as a design experiment. Incorporating mechanical components from the contemporary Opel Kadett B, its design drew frequent comparisons to the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette. This 1973 Opel GT pairs a 4-speed manual transaxle with its 1.9L inline-four and features an aftermarket Lenk Tuning body kit. Finished in blue over a black interior, this GT is an ideal candidate for restoration. It was acquired by the current owner in 2005 as a partially restored example. Purchased by the current owner in 2005 as a partially restored vehicle, it is now being offered for auction at no reserve out of Virginia.

The Opel GT, featuring a fastback design by French contractor Brissonneau & Lotz, is distinguished by its concealed headlights. These headlights intend to rotate in unison, moving counterclockwise from inside the car along a longitudinal axis. This example is said to have been previously resprayed in its current shade of blue. Several signs of wear are noted, including scratches, dents, front spoiler lip damage, and rear bumperette corrosion. The headlights, driver’s side mirror, and passenger’s side glass are currently uninstalled. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features black leather seats with a matching dashboard. Equipment includes a 3-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, an analog clock, and a rear parcel shelf. The seller states the floors and other sheet metal appear solid with no evident rust perforation. Wear is consistent throughout the interior and the operation of the gauges, electronics, and accessories has not been confirmed.

Beneath the bonnet lies a front mid-mounted 1.9L inline-four engine driving the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. This vehicle stands as an exceptional candidate for restoration, as a collection of parts will accompany the sale.

This sale will include registration and a collection of parts.

The seller would like you to know: “Like many projects, this Opel GT was only partially restored when it was sold to the current owner. Under the current ownership, little was done to further the restoration. The car was stored in an unconditioned garage space. Most of the parts to complete the restoration will be included in the sale minus the original exhaust system. Thank you for participating in this auction.”

Headlight roll video is incoming! This is a late Opel GT signature. Very fun.

We just started the Opel for the first time in 7 years! We're aiming to get it to a place where it can be loaded on a trailer under it's own power. First start video is loading as I write this. More soon.

We’re attempting to get the Opel started right now. Stay tuned!

There are many parts that will come along with the Opel GT including these unused 2004 date coded tires. They are surprisingly without dry rot. Goodyear Assurance for one axle and Bridgestone Potenza for the other.

@kingdeeprun all great questions. It does not run or drive (though we plan another start attempt today). It will certainly not pass state inspection and it will require considerable work to achieve road-worthy status. I can help you arrange for delivery to Short Pump but I have no transport of my own. Thank you

Thank you for visiting this auction for a 1973 Opel GT. I’ve had great fun putting this together with the good people at PCARMARKET. Through this process I’ve learned so much about the Opel GT and found a great deal to like. This is a tough, accessible driver’s car that looks exotic enough to keep you looking. Small, lightweight, balanced, durable and good parts availability. But at the end of the day it’s a pretty little thing that is easy to own. I’m looking forward to chatting about this car. Let me know if you have any questions and don’t hesitate to add your thoughts in the comments. All are welcome!
